Konig von Kuhlem 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2010 Has anyone tried the Bauer Pro Series shoulder pads? How's the mobility and protection? I think they are similar/same as the Pro Lightspeed shoulder pads of the past few years. I currently have Bauer Pro Defender Shoulder Pads, which are light, but have no abdominal and rib protection. Slapshot9123 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2010 If they are the same as the Lightspeed shoulder pads, they are tanks. I wore Lightspeeds for 4 years and I had no complaints with them at all. Much much better than the Pro Defenders that I had.
skyscrape 5 Report post Posted June 20, 2010 I do not know about the shoulder pads, but I just picked up a pair of pro series shin pads and they are so freaking comfortable! Compared to the other top of the line pads these were by far the best fit for me! I will be looking into the shoulder pads!
RussianDangler15 0 Report post Posted June 21, 2010 So anyone who's used these how's the mobility?
Konig von Kuhlem 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2010 Mine are on the way, so I'll see soon. Also I saw that last year's model of the lightspeed pro shoulder pads are on clearance at various stores.

Cove 38 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 I've tried them on didn't like the mobility much personally. I'm a bit of a bigger guy at 200lbs but when I was moving my arms around a bunch(non of which are hockey movements) I didn't like the feel. Seems restrictive. Konig von Kuhlem 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2010 I just got mine. The arm mobility is awesome! They also have a ton of protection.
Xtra 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2010 Konig, how are the shoulder caps on those things? I really want to buy them but I'm afraid they MIGHT be too much for me. The RBK shoulder pads I had a while back SUCKED!!! the caps would always get in the way whether it was me trying to turn my head to see or trying to put my jersey on in the locker room... Xtra, good question... I won't be able to try them on the ice for a couple weeks, but I just tried them on with a jersey. Yeah, the shoulder caps are a bit HUGE compared to my old Kohos, and about the same as the Pro Defenders. I hope it doesn't negatively impact my game.... I can still turn my head to see... and I feel like Robocop! B) These are TANKS!
Konig von Kuhlem 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2010 I finally got a chance to play with the new Bauer Pro Series shoulder pads - they are phenomenal! I have no complaints at all. The protection to the body (shoulders, chest, collar bones, back, ribs) is exceptional, but since the arms have so much mobility, I didn't even notice them on the ice! josephwilliams1967 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2010 I took the shoulder caps off mine and the fit is sweet.... they come with 2 sets of removable shoulder pads... the large ones are just to huge the smaller ones are bearable....
Tman09 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2010 How would you compare these to the Vapor X60s?
skarbro 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2010 Removable shoulder pads? I just picked these up and the shoulder pads aren't removable. If anyone is interested, these are about 200 grams heavier than the Vapor XXXX's (I weighed them). Not too bad. I ended up getting these after getting a very bruised rib through the thin memory foam area in the XXXX's. The Pro's are tanks like mentioned before and have real protection in those areas. I can get used to an extra 200 grams in the torso area.
lukejameslarson 5 Report post Posted October 1, 2010 he's probably talking about the Bauer Pro Defender shoulder pads.
skarbro 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2010 I finally was able to try these out on the ice. They are awesome! I didn't even notice them when I was skating. Arm movements are totally free even with the. Removable rib guards in place. Definitely glad I picked these up. I love that they aren't flashy too.

It's the best of both worlds: crazy protection and awesome mobility! These are one of my favorite pieces of equipment.
bearfight 1 Report post Posted October 14, 2010 How would the protection of these pads stack up against a set of 2010 ST16 shoulders?
skarbro 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2010 For protection, the S16's might be a tiny bit more protective as the rib guards on those are well designed. I've tried on the S16's and didn't like them at all because the mobility was terrible.
skarbro 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2010 I meant ST16's. Can't edit my post in the mobile site.
bearfight 1 Report post Posted October 14, 2010 No worries, I'm on mobile as well.I've got a large frame, and had been really happy with my ST's until I broke my collarbone on a hit I didn't think was all that hard. I never had an issue with the mobility really, but it would be nice to have a little more freedom, and maybe a lower profile. So would you say aside from the ribs they are on a similar level of protection for shoulders/collarbone, chest and spine with increased mobility?I've been considering making a set of frankenpads to see if I can get exactly what I want out of a set, and not some of what I want. FlyChicaga 21 Report post Posted October 14, 2010 I ordered these pads the other day. They should arrive Monday. I'll let you all know what I think... I'm going from Sherwood's to these for increased protection.
