Practicing tips for backhand toe drag...

Recommended Posts

I like to think I have some pretty good hands in general and i'm not looking to use this move much, but it's more of a fun thing to know how to do. But when it comes to playing around during practice and trying a backhand toe drag I look like a fool. For some reason I cannot come close to doing it. Does anyone have any tips on getting this move down?

Watch Datsyuk highlights over and over again then go and try to duplicate. There's also a video clip of Mark Hartigan when he was with SCSU and absolutely backhand toes the shit out of a Gophers forward. Watch how they do it, then keep trying.

I found this on Youtube. Pretty sick.

As for Datsyuk he really doesn't backhand toe drag he just pulls it back on the backhand.

Do you play roller or ice? I don't play much ice, but can do it playing roller pretty decent. It's tough moving fast and backhand dragging. I'm much more confident forehand toe dragging when cruising haha

Where's this clip of Mark Hartigan? I'd like to see it and can't find it on youtube.

It was in the St. Cloud highlight video from the 01-02 season. Might be hard to find now.

Here's a video of my backhand toe drag, crossed the LIFE out of this kid haha

Yeah you ruined that kids life pretty bad lol. I play both ice and roller but looking to do it more in roller as I probably wouldnt get much of a chance in ice.

I'm not one for promoting showboating in games, but damn, that was a sick move.

Thanks, I usually don't because it's just high school hockey, but it was the playoffs and it end up being the game winner

whats the benefit of doing a backhand over a forehand? seems like its just doing the same exact movement in a more complicated way for no reason.

As you can tell in the video above, it catches people off guard, and is harder to cross over to because the defender most likely doesn't know what's going on

Was that a non-checking league, or just a terrible defenseman?

Seems that with a quick move to the outside and some speed, he'd have had the defender beat regardless. That defender had horrible position on him and although it seems that he was simply playing the puck carrier with his stick instead of body position, he was going to get beat by speed, a power move to the net, or a quick trick like the one that was pulled. I think it was just such a shock for him to see that he reacted even more poorly and as he scrambled, fell down. Crappy defense.

I don't think there is a benefit of being able to do a backhand over a forehand per say. I have a pretty nice forehand toe drag and just thought it would be nice to add a backhand in there. I feel being able to do those type of things in practice and stuff just helps with overall puck control. Once again i'm not looking to throw this move in my games, as my competition probably wouldn't allow it anyways.

There's checking, it was my sophomore year in high school, D2. It was just a joke league, it didn't take much to beat him. It's the difference between commitment to training and practicing and just sloppy hockey players
