Mission T7 or Bauer rx25?

Recommended Posts

I badly need a new pair of skates but I'm torn between these two. I can't really see what the big differences would be between the two skates. From the descriptions they both appear to use the same quarter package. They obviously have the same chassis. I like how the Bauer tendon guard appears to be better constructed as my Mission tendon guards always rip easily (not a big deal as far as performance but still..). Hot shots and swiss bearings are better than milleniums and abec 9s but that's not super critical as I have tons of extra wheels and bearings laying around. The outsoles appear to be the same I guess. The bauer says fiber composite and the mission is just composite. If there's any difference in the outsole it's probably minimal. They both fit me pretty well so that's not an issue. The Bauer's are available now and the Missions I'll have to wait another month and a half. Is there something I'm missing here? Someone help me decide what to do! lol.

If you can hold out, hold out. I've not waited for a better product and then regretted it when I realized what I bought was not worth it. Not saying the RX25 is crap, but to me, components aside from the boot don't seem to equivalent to the price point.

The outsoles are different, with the T7 being full composite and the RX25 being a combo of fiberglass and composite.

fiberglass is a composite material

OK, true, however, my point being that there is no fiberglass in the T7. Better?

I have had the RX25 for a while now and have really enjoyed them, most comfortable skate I have ever worn. Only complaint on the RX25 I have is that I play outdoors a lot, and the skate has next to no scuff protection. In fact, it seems that the areas that Mission puts the scuff guards, Bauer puts softer leather materials.

I only weigh around 155 lbs, so the better chassis and sole on the T7 probably doesn't make much of a difference for me.

Have you considered something like the Mission Assassin SE: http://www.inlinewarehouse.com/Mission_Assassin_SE_Hockey_Skates_Sr_10/descpage-MASE.html

Because of the new line of skates coming out, they are much more affordable and seem to have a lot of the same features.

Price wise, the T7 is targeted for $299USD while the RX25 is at $269.

The T7 has a better chassis in the Vanguard than the RX25s Detonator. The boot is specifically made for roller hockey with a thicker tongue, lower eyelets, and the forward flex channel. The outsoles are different, with the T7 being full composite and the RX25 being a combo of fiberglass and composite.

Sure, we all have plenty of wheels and bearings laying around, but, if your first set of wheels doesn't need to be changed out, then that is worth the price of admission to some...

Needing skates now is needing skates now, so that may put you into the RX25, unless you can capitalize on a closeout.

Thanks for all of the replies. Hasn't really helped though I'm still torn lol.

The RX25 are $250 at my LHS vs $300 for the T7s. Add on another $5 extra for tax (9.75% sales tax where I live) and it's a $55 dollar difference which I think is fairly significant. Also isn't the Detanator the exact same thing as what's included on the T7 just with a fancy name? Both appear to be 6000 series aluminum. The bauer skate felt really comfortable, tongue felt fine, flex channel seems to be a little gimmicky to me. Outsoles are fairly comparable (at 150lbs I probably won't notice a difference).

Thank you for mentioning the scuff protection. That is an issue that I have with the skate and everytime I look at it I think that may affect the durability. I have already worn through the scuff guard on my mission assassins almost all the way through the boot (My current wheels are beyond worn so I slide all over the place lol). I also noticed that the new Mission scuff guards on the T7s appear to be much smaller. I imagine they wouldn't last as long as the ones on my assassins have but that's a minor issue. At least they offer some type of protection.

I actually did consider the Assassin SE since I was always pretty happy with my Assassins. When I went to my LHS though he recommended the RX25 over the Assassin SEs for durability reasons.

I actually had both skates, the RX25 and the assassin SE. Durability the assassin is way better. the RX25 for me was torn up after about 10 skates outside. Persoanlly the assassin felt more comfortable and more sturdy when wearing it.

Recalculate your tax, it's a bigger difference than you think. (err...no it's not)

--I misread the statement, I thought he was compairing buying one locally w/ tax to buying one online with no tax. I didn't realize they were both being purchased locally. My apologies.

I've never heard any real good reviews of bauer inline skates (not bad reviews, but just "eh"), but mission has consitently put out good stuff for a long time.

Actually he is pretty darn close on his tax. He was only calculating it on the $50 dollar difference as the tax on the first $250 would be the same for both skates.

Anyhow my recomendation would be to look at the Commanders on clearance personally some of the online companies had them for $299 I believe but in limited sizes and no waiting for the new skates to drop.

Or like Marcello said $299 for the Boss Black is damn hard to beat.

Just wanted to add to the conversation again, I was out skating a couple of days ago, and a teammate noticed that the composite sole was separating from the toe cap on the RX 25s. They are now in the process of being shipped to Bauer to see about a warranty replacement since they are only two months old at the moment (but they have been used around 3-4 days a week).

We will see if they issue a warranty replacement for them. Problem I see is that when the toe cap/sole started pulling away from each other, it left the sole looking like it was slammed in towards the skate. I know it wasn't, but it isn't my decision of swapping out the skates.

In either case, I still think they are a very comfortable skate, they just don't seem to like to go outside. I picked up some Mission Soldier SE 2010 in the mean time since the price is lower, and they have a bit more scuff protection.

There are clearly no Boss blacks in my size anywhere. I guess it would have to be between Commanders for $250 or Commander SEs for $330 if I'm going to go the commander route. Are there any major differences? Would it be worth it to pick up the SE or just grab the 2009 model? I believe the SE use the Bauer sizing vs standard Mission sizing for the 2009s.

EDIT: Okay, no Commander Blacks or Boss Blacks in my size. I guess I'm stuck between Commander SE and Mission T7 (not looking to spend more than $300 really but if it's worth it for the Commander SE..). Are the new skates going to be that much better than the SEs that it will be worth the wait even if its a newer model that is one step down vs an older model that is one step up?

Personally, I'd go with the Commander SE's. IMO the best feature on Mission skates (aside from them fitting my feet well) has been the indy-foam ankle pads. The T7's will not have that feature while the Commander Se's will.

Not to say that the T7's will not be comfortable, but the SE line feels awesome right off the bat.

Not sure if the Mission Solider SE has that foam feature, but they already had formed to my foot after the first/second skate and were great right out of the box. Don't be afraid to go with the 2010 line of Mission skates that have dropped $50 or more. These skates will be under the Bauer sizing (which is basically the same as all other skate manufacture's sizing, size and a half down).

I would personally purchase the Commander/Assassin/Soldier SE from InlineWarehouse (since they have free shipping and free return shipping if they don't fit right) and see how you like the fit of them. Unless you really want to show off having the latest skates, it rarely pays off being an early adopter especially with skates with no revolutionary improvements. As far as I've read on the Axiom line, they are a Bauer Supreme boot design along with the Hi/Lo chassis.

The Missions should be a little wider in most locations than the Bauer RX line just so you know. The Axiom line will be a little wider than this years Mission skates.

Okay so I need some more help. I went to the LHS and they don't even have Commanders there. So my only option it appears is the monkey as the warehouse is already out of my size (most likely). The problem I have is that I don't know what my size is. I got the original Mission Assassins when they first came out and I wear a 7.5D in those which fit great. I wear a size 9 shoe (skater shoes) and I don't know what I would wear with the new sizing as the "true to shoe size" was never correct for me in Mission skates. I got a size 9 once and they were huge. I also fit really well in the Bauer RX25s in a size 8. Any assistance please? Also I've been thinking about liners and do they really even make that much of a difference unless you skate barefoot?? Random question I know. Thanks again everyone.
