i was curious about this too. i was looking at eagle, but have never used their pants before. also, does anyone know if the PPF pants are even available at retail? I have no LHS anywhere nearby, and I haven't even been able to find an online retailer that carries them. i've only seen the 72 and 88.

I had 72's and they were "low end" quality......they looked good, but obviously a low end pant....Fit huge too!! Way bigger than I anticipated!

Cheers

Reviving an old thread.

Got a chance to take a look at the ppf pants and they reminded me of the tackla 5000x's. Been a while since I've seen the tackla's though. Can anyone confirm if they're basically the same pants, just rebranded?

I had a feeling that's what they were but didn't want to assume since: 1. I've never seen Canada made tackla pants in person and 2. The other eagle pants appear a bit different when comparing the looks of them and pics I've seen of the other Canada-made tackla's.

Thanks!

I have the X88s, and love them. Better protection than my One75s or Tackle EX-44, while more flexible than either, and with a more secure belt system. Definitely not bigger.

I have the 72's also, and kind of agree. My LHS carries the 72's and the 88's. I believe the 88's are made in Canada, but not the 72's. I choose the 72's becuase they seemed a bit lighter, and I only play C league. I was a little disappointed, because the padding inside pilled very quickly, but hasn't gotten any worse after a year of playing in them. But other than that I like them quite a bit. They fit good, are comfortable to skate in and have protected me in all falls. If I was in the market for new pants I'd look at the 88's a little harder. But, might buy the 72's again anyway.

I have been talking with Eagle about getting a set of custom pants. Several people on the boards have said that Eagle pants are but the same as Tackla 9000. The people at Eagle actually measured the leg opening for me. It is actually smaller than the Bauer. This means that there is no was that Eagle pants are the same as Tackla 9000 which has a HUGE leg opening.

I won the auction for the ppf pants... I'll post my review, thoughts, and pics as soon as I get them.

You get the pants? Any thoughts?

I'm planning on driving to NJ to look at a pair of X88's on Monday.

Not only did I get the ppf pants, I also got some pro stock tackla 5000x pants (posted those in the show it off thread) to compare. I can confirm with absolute certainty that the ppf pants are the canadian made tackla 5000x pants with eagle branding on them. While I prefer the tackla's for the lightning bolts on the side, the padding is identical. Both are two piece, european style pants that fit slim and taper at the openings.

As far as quality is concerned both pants adhere to the "stripped down, built like a tank, no gimmicks" strategy that I've always preferred. The padding around the hips is very thick, but has the consistency of an expensive pillow. It really caresses my bony hips and sets a new standard for comfort as far as pants are concerned. Another feature that I love is the lack of a huge tailbone/lower back pad. It seems like all the hockey companies think we have squirrel tails or something that need protecting. In my experience those huge pads in the back only get caught up on my jersey and force the jersey into full-tuck mode (IMO it looks dumb).

Unfortunately, I got both in a size 52 (large), which is much smaller than Bauer's equivalent. It fits like a bauer retail medium in both length and waist size. I'm selling the eagles to a friend and I think that I'm going to try and get xl or xxl lowers for the tacklas.

Overall I think that it's definitely a great pant. Definitely much better than any of the retail bauer/ccm/reebok garbage that they sell in the local pro shop. The only thing that is comparable in the quality department as far as I'm concerned are the Warrior Hustlers and the pro stock "mhp" ccm/rbk pants on ebay and PSHG. THat isn't to say that the sizing is the same.
