Most Protective Ice Hockey Girdle for Hip area?

Recommended Posts

What is the most protective ice hockey girdle out there, specifically for the hip area? I know girdles are not as protective as pants, but I still like girdles more. I currently have the Bauer one90 girdle and I have been getting a lot of bruises on my hip. I know a lot of new girdles came out in the last season:

Eagle X95

Tackla Air 4500

Warrior Projekt

Bauer Vapor X:60 Adaptable Core Pad

Easton Synergy '10 Model

Bauer Supreme one95

I heard a lot of good things about the Bauer X:60 ACP and the Synergy '10. Anyone tried them both?

I was in much the same boat, with hip bruises and wearing a One90 girdle. I love the One90, but it just wasn't doing the job. I moved to the X:60, and imo, it is the most protective of the bunch. My partner has the Tackla 4500 and Easton Synergy '09 model, so I've been able to try both of those, and I had a look at the One95 in the store. To me, the X:60 is by far the most protective out of all of those, although it is still borderline in terms of hip protection for me. I'm now going back and forth between the X:60 girdle and Tackla Air 9000 pants, depending on the condition of my hip on any given day.

I emailed ice/inline warehouse and asked for their option of the most protective ice hockey girdle. They said the Easton Synergy 10 Model was. Any tried this girdle? Sounds like they have hard plastic inserts in the hip area that the X:60 does not have?

If you check out ice warehouses' video reviews they do a pretty good job of listing each girdles features. I looked at them all a little while ago, and I think the new Easton looked the most solid. For me it was too much protection, but it might be what you are looking for.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your responses. I tried out the Easton synergy Girdle '10 and the Bauer Vapor X60 Adaptable Core pad (and of course my old Bauer One90 Girdle) and the Easton Synergy had the best hip and tail protection by far. The Vapor X60 had the same problem as the One90 where if you fell on your hip, a lot of the time, you do not land on the highly padded portion, but rather the thin, single density portions of the girdle. I'm guessing they designed the hip pads to protect against checks against the board where the padding stays in line with your hip, rather than falls where the girdle tends to ride up a bit. The Easton Synergy has multiple pads along the hip so that you are protected no matter how the girdle shifts. The downside was that the Easton Girdle is slightly heavier than the other two girdles.

IMO One95 should without doubt be the last on the list, it's a light weight girdle for mobile forwards, I've been using it for year and very happy with it, but it doesn't provide a lot of protection.

x60 is basically a pant separated from a shell plus a bit more adjustability, so it provides the same level of protection all around as top level pants.

to me though it slightly defeats the purpose of a girdle - to be light weight.

I just tried on both the Warrior Projekt and the x60. ultimately I went with the x60 bc it was less restrictive but I was also concerned with the lack of hip protection. I definitely thought the warrior had more. I always wear compression shorts under my jock shorts and realized I can get compression shorts from Easton that have additional padding and have the Velcro for socks or get compression shorts from Nike that are made for football that also have the hip padding in them so knowing that I just went with what felt most comfortable in the x60.

Eugene-

The Easton Heavier then regular pants? In an uncomfortable way?

No the Easton is lighter that traditional pants. They are a lot more protective than my old Bauer One90 Girdle.

I know this isn't on the list, but I have a Reebok 9K girdle, and the padding on the hip is ridiculous. If you can track one of those down, it would be the way to go.

Odd to hear the reviews. I've been using the X60 for about 8 months and feel it's really light, incredibly mobile but lacks protection- primarily in the hips and inner thighs.

I play in an adult non contact league (moderate contact) and have bruises on both my hips from hitting the ice, boards, ect. It is incredibly mobile though, almost like nothing at all.

The Older tackla girdles are best. Mine is by far the most protective and mobile. I purchased it at The Garden ICe house in MD maybe check those out they are more protective and mobile then the x 60

Another vote for the Reebok 9K girdle - super protective.

I also have the One95 girdle and I use it without bruises or problems, perhaps it is a fit issue for the people that are getting bumps and bruises? I prefer the fit of the One95 girdle over any other girdle and I have never had any hip, tailbone or thigh injuries while using it.
