Bruins: 2010-2011

I couldn't stand Arnold, either, when he was doing the B's a few years ago. Just like Edwards, I found his voice and mannerisms annoying, similar to the guy who works for NBC (Emrick?). I've come to the conclusion that the NHL gets the scrubs of the announcing world. If you're good, you get promoted to the NFL or MLB; if you're a wannabe, you're put on the hockey telecast.

I understand there is a lot of talent to be able to memorize the players' names, then describe the pace of the game without being repetitive, but how difficult could it be to do so without seeming like you're trying to interject yourself into the story of the game via words?

The sad part is the man truly seems like he's a big fan of the team, but I watch Bruins games in spite of Jack Edwards, not because of him.

Too bad Dale Arnold turned the job down. Edwards makes my ears bleed.

That's the worst part he keeps giving his opinion on the game. Hey Jack here's a little secret.... NO ONE CARES!!!!

I hated Arnold as much. At the time I thought Jack was an upgrade. What the hell was I thinking.

The Bruins went from one of the best TV guys (Cusick) & Radio guys (Wilson) to some of the worst.

Gary Thorne would be good I think. Although I can't imagine he would want to leave his baseball gig.

Speaking of Jack, what's the over/under for how many times he implies he doesn't like composites, as in "ANOTHER composite broke.....There goes another $150!"?

I putting the number at 25 and taking the Over.

50+

He honestly thinks they will go back to wood at some point.

Hopefully they can keep this steak going tonight. They luck out a little with having the Pens played last night.

Anyone hear anything else on how long Bergeron will be out?

Amazing they got a point tonight. They looked out of sync. The Pens played good considering they played last night.

No doubt the B's looked out of sync, but I think that might have been more of a byproduct of the Pens' game plan. The Pens seemed to be in better position to disrupt the Bruins' passes than probably any team all season.

On a different topic, that past two home games on the NHL Network have used the visiting teams' announcers. Serious question here, but is this common or is this an acknowledgement by the NHL Network that Jack Edwards is unpopular among hockey fans?

I don't think so. They always use the NESN feed for the Bruins highlights during On the Fly.

Last night it looked like Lucic has been reading some of his own press. Too many times did he try to make plays in the neutral zone and just inside the blue line when he should have just got the puck deep.

Marchand suspended two games for hit to the head.

Although this will cost the young lad $6K, this actually may be a good thing for him as long as the rules allow the team to treat him like a healthy scratch. I have no idea how much scouting comes into play on a game-to-game basis, but I wonder if his production has decreased recently because teams have learned how to defend against his style better. Looking at the game from up high might help him.

I think he was on such a run earlier with Bergeron that he started expecting good things to happen instead of making them happen. A couple of nights off may light that fire under him again.

Let's hope this crappy play finishes soon. They are standing around again instead skating & making things happen. Ference looked awful tonight but it was his first game back in a while. I think Boychuk has looked bad in the past couple of weeks. If Shane Hnidy can still play(and that is a big if) He has got to be better than Kamfer & Boychuk. At least the way they are playing right now.

And where is that toughness go. Thomas gets run into & Ference is making sure the Toronto player (Brown?) is alright.

They better find there game come the playoffs.

You have to think that the Chara/Pacioretty incident doubled with Marchand's suspension may have something to do with the toughness being gone. Whether or not Chara wanted to "hurt" Pacioretty is irrelevent but seeing that he injured a player seriously must certainly leaves some marks somewhere and perhaps make a guy like Chara and perhaps the whole team a bit hesitant in that department. I may be wrong but you do so some players lose a bit of that physical part of their game from time to time after they have injured someone seriously.

I'm sure the Chara incident is weighing on him a little and is probably trickling through the room a little. The way the B's were called in that first game afterward is probably also having a little bit of an impact. They probably feel a little under the microscope and that could be making them a little tentative.

I'm more concerned with their overall play and especially complete lack of production from the power play. The other things that annoyed me the last 2 games were Rask's reactions to a couple of goals. The stick toss Thursday night looked like something a beer leaguer might pull and jumping into Seidenberg's face on Saturday didn't look good, either. I understand that a goalie can get frustrated from time to time and Rask certainly should have been after each of those goals but he needs to show some maturity there. Those reactions aren't the best way to get the best out of the guys in front of you.

That reminds me a bit about Price and the Habs last season. He would put his arms up after a goal as to say, what the hell did you guys just do? It seemed to get the guys in front of him more hesitant not really wanting to play for him. Fortuntaly, for Habs fans at least, he started getting his act together during the playoffs by practicing longer and changing his attitude which has made him IMO at least a much better goalie and teammate. This season, he doesn't seem to get rattled too easily and bounces back really well after a loss. Now, I can't wait to see his next start after last Friday's romp against the Rangers.. but I digress, this is the Bruins thread after all.

So that being said, Rask may see limited ice time from now on unless Thomas starts to play unbelievably bad.

I couldn't believe that Rask got pissed at his D man who threw himself in front of an open net (with his face/head in harm's way) to try to stop a shot. There was no way he was getting back into position in time to stop that rebound.

I don't blame Rask for being upset at all. He made the first three stops on the play Thursday. He just chose a really poor way to express it.

If there power play doesn't start to produce than there is zero chance they go anywhere in the playoffs. If that happens you would have to consider if they would really want to resign Kaberle.

I think they'll attempt to sign Kaberle regardless of what happens. Chiarelli has coveted him for too long to let him just slip away now that he's got him. I expect that the B's will look to find someone who has that ability to dish off the half-wall once free agency opens and they are out from beneath Ryder and probably Savard, whom I expect will either still be on LTIR or will retire.

Last night's game encapsulated the frustration of following the B's this season, in that they have enough talent to hang with any team, but they don't always put out the effort. They seemed to lack confidence for about the first ten minutes, getting slightly overrun in their defensive zone, then they outplayed the Devils for most of the remainder. That was impressive, because it looked like the B's were teetering, as well as the Devils' style is rather stingy.

I'm concerned about teams that are fast, because it mitigates the hitting game, but B's have enough talent to make a decent run in the playoffs -- just not sure if they have the willpower.
