Flyers' 2010-2011 Season

Recommended Posts

Figured I'd start this up so the Flyers fans can move discussion out of the offseason transaction forum.

Nice start beating the Pens in the inaugural game at CEC, followed by a one period effort against the Blues. Focal points of the season seem to follow offseason discussion: the Philly goalie shuffle, and what type of season JVR will produce.

The Blues are looking scary this year. I wasn't surprised they lost. I was surprised it was in OT though. I thought they were going to run away with the game, but Boucher played very well. I'm anxious to see the atmosphere tonight at the WFC.

The flyers played like ass. They could have won that game easily if they played a little harder from the get go. I was also bummed that Perron scored 0 points because he's on my fantasy team haha.

Colorado is going to be another fun game tonight though. another exciting, young team.

Perron is on my fantasy team as well, haha; really lit it up in pre-season. i'm surprised the Flyers got a point out of this one -- giving up 9 powerplays doesn't usually equate to being in the game. really seemed like a playoff atmosphere in this one.

i'll be watching this thread. i'm a homer; live and die by the flyers :/

Just read that it's been two and a half weeks now for Laperriere without headaches. He's being cautiously optimistic now that a return could be in store. Wow. That man just doesn't give up.

Unreal. That would really mess with the cap situation since Lappy isn't a cap hit right now. flyers are agressively trying to re-sign Carter right now, too. (my worst nightmare as a Flyers fan). if Lappy comes back this season, that just about screams "trade coming" or a "release".

I hope they don't throw too much money at Carter. I'd hate to see them have trouble resigning Giroux in the future due to having too much money tied up elsewhere.

Really enjoy watching Giroux play. Great hands, good wheels.

I'm not 100% sold on Carter in terms of throwing franchise money at him. In too many games he just seems to disappear.

I've been impressed by their recent play going into November. I still think there are some problems though. I'm just not seeing the consistency that I would like. And I'd like to see a goalie chosen for the starting job.

With Bob playing the last two games, and getting the start tonight, I think he's starting to emerge as the starter.

Bob is the type of goalie teams are starting to look for in the 'new' NHL; his post to post work and ability to go from deep in the net to the top are remarkable. lightning fast!

he's fun to watch; what worries me is his knees and hips. Nittymaki was the same type of goalie who relied on quickness but that took a toll on him; was never the same again.

On the train to the game tonight, very excited for my first Rags game in a long time. I always root for Avery to get decapitated so possibly seeing that in person is very nice. Giroux has been everything expected so far, but I am concerned about JVR. I realize he is not a bruising power forward but damn is he soft, he needs to begin using his size and speed to drive to the net and past defenders. By doing so he'll be able to generate scoring chances or at the least PP opportunities.

Have a blast! Hope someone puts a beating on Avery for you.

You got to witness that beautiful pass by Giroux for that Richie goal. Truly jealous. Bob has been awesome in this game

That was the first thing I said after the goal, "what a pass", Richie still did a great job on the business end of that though. Watching the play, everyone was crowded around Leino while he was on the ice near the puck, and Richards just lurking on the weak side, it was amazing for Giroux to pretty much no-look an absolute zinger of a cross-ce pass. His vision is incredible. Zherdev seemed like he came to play, and while I'm fully aware and accepting that he will oftentimes be in his little Nikolay world, as long as he keeps his feet moving he will be effective on this team. JVR is a gangly female giraffe.

The benching has really helped Zherdev...he's been a completely different player the last few games. Whenever he is out on the ice, I make a point to watch his play more than any one else, just to see if his defensive play is getting any better. So far, I can tell that it has. The season is still young though. I agree with you on the JVR comment, however.

Probably the only time during the next decade (possible optimism) that the Flyers finish dead last and they get screwed out of Patty Kane, who then ruins the Flyers' best shot at a Cup for who knows how long. Not like the Flyers could use a dynamic winger or anything. JVR is like a LeClair- Nash hybrid but without any apparent willingness to play, ya know, hockey.

Lavy's had enough it seems. JVR is a healthy scratch tonight and Nodl is back in the lineup. Bobrovsky gets the start, and it seems like he'll get the start tomorrow as well. Damn, talk about confidence.
