Warrior Projekt Girdle

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried out the Projekt girdle yet?

And how does it compare to the Bauer 0ne95 and x60 girdles?

I have one and I can't really compare to the others since this the only one I have owned, but I love it. My main reason for getting one was because I fell on left side between the hip pad and the tail bone pad on my Buaer pants. I was limping for a week so I wanted some type of pad there. I will say they are light and comfortable and protect well enough. I have had mine for about 6 month and have nothing to complain about

I don't really need new pants or a girdle (my Easton S15 combo is good), but I'm considering putting the Warrior Projekt Mid-Body hockey girdle on my wish list because I'm really liking my Projekt elbows, shins and now gloves. The thing is, I can't seem to find it in a local hockey store in the Toronto area. Several warrior dealers carry the shin pads, elbows, and shoulders (Pro Hockey Life, Just Hockey, Hockey Experts, Major Hockey ect.), but none seem to have the girdle.

Some sizing advice would be appreciated in case I order/ask for it without trying it on. I'm 6'2", 220lbs (weight can fluctuate between a little over 200 and close to 240 depending on how much I'm working out and watching my diet) and have a 36" waist (again this can shift between 34" and 38") - my current two piece pant combo is a size large and it says it's for a 34"-36" waist, but this pant also has an adjustment to make the bottom half a couple inches longer. What I've found in the past is that size XL in most pants/girdles is a good length, but pretty big around the waist. Size large in most models is perfect around the waist, but short in some brands. I'm kind of on the border line regarding sizes, but in recent years have always worn a large in pants and girdles (the only thing I went with an XL in was a Shock Doctor compression Jock). I see on some websites there's a sizing guide for the waist, but what about height? What I'm wondering is would a large be long enough to avoid a big gap between my shins and the thigh pads and would the XL be too loose or long. Ideally I'd love to try them locally, but haven't had any luck so far.

I did PM XBIGJIMX since he owns a pair and he suggested the XL because he's my height and the XL fits him well. I appreciate his feedback, but I'm only hesitant because I wear large in the pants and girdles I have now -- the S15 Motion combo and Mission Thorax for roller (plus I think I told him I was a 38" inch waist, but I'm back to around a 36"...I guess since I've been playing more the past few months). If anyone else has any feedback I'd appreciate it. I wish I could find them in a local shop - I should've stopped in at the big Perani's while I was in Michigan on the weekend as I have a feeling that place may have had them, but didn't arrive early enough on Saturday and nothing would keep my wife away from the outlets on Sunday.

Any further advice would be appreciated (and I do know the best thing to do would be to find somewhere local that has them in stock so I can try them on).

I've been using the girdle for 2 weeks now, it definently took some getting used to, my legs felt hot afterwards, but now I can definently tell I skate a bit faster with more mobility for sure, I'm 5'8 190-200 pounds, wearing a M, I was wearing a S in the Hustlers if that helps anyone.

I've had one for about 6 months. I like it a lot better than my Supreme One95 girdle, but definitely get it in a size XL, they fit a little tighter than other girdles. The pads in the girdle don't move around as much as other girdles.

OK, it seems the consensus is that if I can't find it to try on and decide to take a gamble I should go for the XL. The advice and feedback is appreciated. Thanks everyone

Are they good protective wise? There seem to be a lot of open spaces for pucks, sticks, and boards to bash up your leg

Yeah they're pretty good, I find the Projekts don't have that problem in other girdles where over time the pads shift around. I just wouldn't suggest using them to block a Shea Weber slapshot.

Saw this girdle in a few of the Edmonton Oilers lockers on "oil change". Taylor Hall wears it. Noticed a bunch of projekt elbows and shoulders too.

Would you say that the Projekt girdle is ok for roller or too bulky?

Well if you don't normally wear a girdle or padding for roller, then it may feel off. But if you do it's really good for both ice and roller, I've used it for both.

I've been wanting this for a while, but couldn't find it in any LHS store to try on. I didn't want to order from a U.S. site and have to worry about shipping it back and forth across the border so I held off on the purchase. My sister's boyfriend managed to get a pair for me, but they're in Montreal and I didn't plan on making the 5 hour drive each way in the near future. Based on the advice I received here earlier I asked them to grab me a pair in XL, but unfortunately that was on back order so they grabbed me a large and shipped it out - they said I could just ship it back if it didn't fit when I tried it on and then wait for the XL to come in. I received it today.

It's definitely a nice light girdle that looks and feels both mobile yet protective. It fits me around the waist (36" waist, 6'2" 220bs) and the neoprene part with the velcro does up just fine. The length also seems good and it's snug, but not too tight. The issue is the secondary blue belt. I can't even get into them with that done up and when I get them on I can't get that done up (I can get the ends about 2 inches apart) - it sits a few inches lower than the upper closure and the back part of the belt goes around my big ass.

Now, I have a large in the Easton S15 combo and tried the belt from that...it actually works as that belt is longer. So I could potentially switch the belts and keep the large as is, but I'd prefer that the stock belt fit (that would also allow me to sell the S15 combo in the future if I chose to do so). I could also just wear it without the secondary belt, but I like the two closures on the S15 girdle for the snug fit around the waist so it doesn't move around while playing. So I'm definitely leaning toward sending it back and waiting patiently for an XL, but I thought I'd post a quick pic (I just posted a thumnail...click to see a larger pic) and see what other people think before packing up the large.

If you were me, would you keep the large and use a longer belt or hold out for an XL? In the picture the blue belt is miles apart, but I'm not pulling it together...there's loose belt at the back, but even when I pull it together I can only get the ends a few inches apart and not all the way together.

Now I understand the comments people made about this girdle being tighter around the waist...I don't think that's the case though. The waist is OK for me - I think the issue is the secondary belt sits slightly lower that on other girdles (I know it goes a bit lower than on the girdle portion of the S15 combo) so it has to go around the big part of hockey asses, plus the belt is shorter.

Looks like it fits you good....I would "Macgiver" some sort of belt from old tackla pants, or something along those lines? Make it work! Good luck!

I had the same problem, just used a belt from an old pair of pants and problem solved! Love this girdle!

I've tried these on in our shop and had customers try them and it seems that Warrior is using ridiculously short belts for the sizes. I had a slim girl, who should have been a small easily try to get into a large without taking the belt apart and couldnt. Not one person I've sold one to was going to use the stock belt.

BTW, I have a 36" waist and could not get the belt on an XL to work for me. Stick with large and use a different belt.

Thanks for the replies everyone. They were very helpful. I agree that keeping the large and just using a longer belt seems to be the best solution. I tried it with the belt from my Easton S15 Motion combo and that works well - that belt is 49". The stock Warrior belt on the large is 40". I think the shortest I could comfortably use would be 44".

I can see the logic of the designers. The large is meant to fit someone with a 34”-36” waist. Usually someone with a 36” waist uses a 38” belt (that’s what most of my belts are), so they thought 40” would be plenty long. The thing is, this belt doesn’t go over the waist – it goes below the waist, over part of the butt and also has to go over the tail bone protector. That’s why it needs to be significantly longer. Making it 50 or 51" would be ideal. It's better to have it be a bit long than too short. Those who don't have big butts and need the length could just trim it and melt the ends. The belt Warrior includes is thick and of good quality - it just needs to be longer.

You can use a traditional garter underneath, shorts or pants with velcro tabs, or some girdles have velcro tabs on the outside. Even if the girdle doesn't have specific velcro tabs you may be able to attach the socks girdle anyway if there is velcro for the thigh adjustment and you don't do it up all the way. You could also sew velcro tabs onto the outside of the girdle if it doesn't include them. There are many options.

Now that some people have used these what do you think of them? I know no girdle will have the padding of an upper level pant but how do they compare to a mid level pant with respect to padding?

Well, I've only worn them for one game so far, but I like them so far. I'm glad I stuck with the large as it's definitely big enough for me with a longer belt. I actually cranked the longer belt pretty hard to keep them tight so I probably don't need the replacement belt quite as long as I have it, but the stock belt is still too short (I'd need at least 5 inches extra on that to make it work comfortably...stock length on the large is 40", which you'd think would be plenty long, but it doesn't go around just your stomach - it has to go around part of your butt and the tail bone protector as well).

Belt issues aside, they're light, flexible, mobile and I'm happy with the amount of protection they have. There's padding for the lower ribs, hips, thighs and the tail bone protector is significant without being bulky. There's also softer padding in between the main pads to minimize gaps. I'd say they're more protective than most mid-level pants. I used to use Nike Quest 1 pants (which were top of the line years ago) before switching to an Easton S15 Motion pant/girdle combo and then finally the Projekt girdle and I don't feel like I'm less protected in the Projekt girdle.

I've had mine since Christmas and they've been everything I've ever wanted in a pair of pants/girdle. So far I have not felt like they weren't protective enough. I just got done with a tourney that got pretty rough at times and my upper body is sore and bruised, lower body feels great!

They're used in the NHL too, so I'd say the protection is pretty solid.

Has the length been good for you, looks like they cover your knees completely in the pic?

The NHL version is a bit beefed up from retail

Do you have any pics or info on what is altered?
