I've recently made the move to composite sticks after being a diehard holdout with my indestructable Montreal wooden sticks which have finally given up their best. I bought a CCM U+ CL Thornton model, which I've liked, but noticed that within a few games the tip of the blade was getting hacked up from digging along the boards and such. I took some sandpaper to it, but can't help but wonder if maybe a file would be in order to shape it better. It seems to turn into ratty lengths of fiberglass if left alone.Anyone filing or sanding their composite blades? I can't see myself buying a new stick a month if this is how nondurable they are. shotty 7 Report post Posted December 2, 2010 belt sander would probably be the best, although i've never done it. i'll post pics of a stick of mine here later. its a sillinger pro stock that he clearly messed around with. the toe is sanded down and mitred corners. kinda odd. Once the outer layer of composite wears, the only thing you can do is live with it or have it repaired by one of the stick repair methods that uses carbon fiber and epoxy. pby 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2010 You can probably get away with sanding the toe down if the blade doesn't have foam inside. I wouldn't touch the top or the bottom at all as it compromises the structure of the blade. I experimented with a few easton blades and they're a definite no-no. steelnation248 102 Report post Posted December 2, 2010 Some players do it. Granted, they get free sticks and many of them. Brooks Laich does it in this video and in the one under the 'suggested' section with him and Ovie, he uses a belt sander though. It starts around the 1:25 point in the video.
