getthekidthepuck 32 Report post Posted December 18, 2010 Hey Guys,I am in need of new skates, Sport Check has S15's and SE16's on sale for 249.99. I dont really trust the staff there and was looking for some insight into what skate I should purchase. I dont know much about skates I am more of a stick guy.I play 2-3 times a week(beer league), I weigh 220 lbs and suffer from terrible lace bite on both feet. I currently wear 1500 C's. I play forward and in all honesty am slow but fairly sound technically.I am looking for something to help me with my foot speed and perhaps help me with my lace bite.Any insight would be helpful. If you fail in 1500C you'll most likely fail in S15 so just putely on fit all 3 skates might be a no go since they fit similarly.S15 has known durability issues, it's a bit of a hit & miss since some people reported no problem, but many others have (mine literally felt apart on me in 2 months) so being a heavier guy (I'm ~ 200 myself) IF that happens (glue comes right off, and the probability is pretty high) then you'd get no support from the skates as they loose stiffness considerably.so I'd definitely pass on S15, SE16 is a consideration IF it fits (pencil test is a must)

Johan Santana 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2010 The S15 might not be the best for your weight as I have heard anyone over 200+ lb will wear them out quickly, especially at 2-3 times a week. It might be ok if you were 220 lb and only played once a week. Play it safe and go with the SE16

I actually liked the way they broke in and had some (not allot) flex to them, uppose to being so stiff. I think that it was and is a great skate. Yes they could have improved on it and they did with the new rubber toe guards on the 16's and the glue but if you take care of them they will last you a good while. I also never had an issue with a puck off the skate as well.My bad, it was the S17 with the new and improved rubber toe not the 16.

I'm around 190lbs and the skates has held up good for me. Not falling apart at all and the boot still seems stiff to me.
titand19 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2010 I've owned all 3 skates you mentioned. The fit of Eastons are all the same, but there are slight differences between the synergy and stealth line. The most noticeable and obvious is the height. Although they all have the same amount of eyelets, the synergy line is cut about half and inch shorter. When I skate in the Stealths I have to skip the top eyelet. I am a fan of the felt tongue also, both the Se16 and S15 have funny foam tongues. The Se16 is more similar to that of the 1500. If you do go with Easton again, your easiest transition (a few skates), would be in the SE16's. Good luck.
AIREAYE 248 Report post Posted December 27, 2010 The protection on the S15s are...inconsistent. If you take an impact on the quarter package, it provides good protection, but from what I've experienced, any toe cap or side panel impacts tend to hurt a bit more :(
pass the bisk 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2010 I have S15's and after a few months they were torn up. Very light and high performing, but low durability.

duch 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2010 I've been hearing about considerable amount of durability issues with the S-15's. Although they seem to be an extremely light and well performing skate on the ice, I keep hearing comments on how quickly they fall apart under heavy usage. I also saw many on clearance at various outlets over the holidays so it might be a good idea to avoid these. I personally have the SE16's and have found the transition from my 1300C's went very smoothly. The fit of the 16's is very similar to the 1300C's and 1500 skates and the inside latex liner is much nicer than the S-15's grey weaved type of liner. The tongue is also felt and much thicker than the one on the S-15 so it provides good lacebite protection. For my money the SE16's are a better buy and a nicer fit and perform just as well. I'd go with them in my personal opinion.
