Superfeet or SIDAS?

Recommended Posts

I got a $30 gift card to my LHS, I figured a pair of nice insoles would be a good investment.

From what I've read, SIDAS and Superfeet are the best manufacturers, but what are the differences between the two?

I skate on Graf 605 Supras, which didn't come with the optional SIDAS footbeds. I know that Graf has a partnership with the company, but I wanna give Superfeet its fair shake as well.

superfeet have a higher arch and they're more rigid than the graf footbeds. they both have a great heel cup.

i prefer the graf footbeds over the superfeet personally, easier on the achilles tendonitis, because they have more 'give'.

If you can swing it, get the custom Sidas footbeds if your LHS has that air bladder machine used to mold them.

It'll be your gift certificate and another $50-60, but it's worth it.

The only problem I have is that I won't use anything else.

I know that superfeet gives that arch support that most default manufacturer footbeds do not. But is it just a comfort thing?

For me the SIDAS are a little more comfortable, although I never tried the Superfeet in my current skates. I did really like the Superfeet before I made the switch though.

I don't find the Superfeet or Sidas change the volume very much - they're a tiny bit thicker than most stock insoles, but the only real change is at the heel. They may lift your heel slightly, so that can change the fit a little, but the main thing is stabilizing the heel and supporting the arch. The Superfeet has a firmer arch support that can be too much for some people (maybe me, I'm still debating), where the Sidas arch support has a bit more give to it and therefore a bit less support. All in my own opinion, of course.

@AIREAYE: Comfort is part of it, but there is also the thought that by supporting the arch and stabilizing the heel, your stride mechanics will be better and your edge control improved. How much of that is true and how much is hype? Got me, ask a podiatrist. But that's the theory, anyway.

The key for ether foot support is a solid heel, that will keep your foot in the neutral position. The actual arch area will not be a factor (this is straight from Superfeet). If you wear Superfeet you will usually see that the arch area gets less wear than the forefoot and heel (my Suprefeet in my shoes show this effect).

The Superfeet does take up more volume in the skate, I've taken out mine from my skates and snowboard boots because they would elevate my foot inside both boots. I got terrible lace bite on both due to my high instep. I've gone back to the stock insole and not had issues with lace bite but I do feel more pain in the knees, especially after snowboarding.

My roommate has a pair of Foot Balance (same idea as SIDAS) which he raves as better than his Superfeet. He's been using Superfeet for a long time (got me on them) and since getting a pair from Master Boot Fit training, he's noticed a bigger difference in his snowboarding boot's fit and comfort. They're also much less volume (I got to see them before he went snowboarding on them so they were clean and just molded). They mold to your whole underfoot as well, which keeps your feet in the more natural position.

If you have the money, I would highly recommend the SIDAS. I will get one for my skates and snowboard boots sooner than later. If you don't have the money and/or you have less volume feet (mid to lower instep, mid to narrow width foot) Superfeet are awesome as well.

I have the original superfeet grey in my vectors. I love them. I have sidas in my new 703s and love them. I purchased the newer yellow superfeet for my mission inline skates and couldn't use them. Mission skates are contoured for higher arch support. The rigid superfeet would not mate properly with the skate. I wish I would have purchased another insole for those skates.

Without the molded bladder system, they're just a flat piece of material that needs to me worked on. They will not fit anything as they're just flat! The SIDAS foot bed needs to be molded then machined for the perfect fit, check out the video on Graf's website. My roommates Foot Balance (SIDAS) were molded with the machine and also shaved a bit to fit.

Ok. This conversation has been a little confusing.

First of all, there should be some differentiation between the products that everyone is talking about because each company carries stock footbeds as well as customizable ones.

Superfeet

Yellow (stock)

Custom grey

Sidas

Anatomical Footbed (stock)

Step-in Footbed (stock)

Custom Hockey Pro Footbed

Custom Hockey Footbed

Personally, I have used the Superfeet Custom grey, Sidas anatomical footbed, Sidas step-in footbed, and am currently using the Custom Hockey Pro footbed.

Without question, the Custom Hockey Pro Footbed is the best because of the way it is molded, especially if you have a high arch or a unique footshape.

The bladder machine accurately contours the footbed in your hockey stance while The Superfeet customs are molded to your feet while you are seated and don't accurately contour to your foot.

It is a matter of preference and need since some people have feet that can only use the customs while others feet work just fine with the stock versions.

Either way, you should try them all out, and see what works for you. I'll say it is a safe bet that you don't know what the peoples' feet on this board look like. It is so hard to gauge a response for this particular product without testing it in person.

This is sort of off-topic, but relevant:

Has anyone switched footbeds and noticed a difference in skate fit? I just went from Shock Doctor's to SIDAS and my toes seem to be closer to the toe box. Any suggestions?

I just got my Graf Sidas Custom footbeds done at LHS. I've only played two games in them, but am already really impressed. I can't believe how much of a difference it makes! I have VERY flat feet and have always associated skating with discomfort/pain, no matter what adjustments I tried. It was especially bad when standing still, waiting for faceoff. I figured that's just the way it is.

Then, I read a couple threads about custom footbeds in MSH and decided to give it a shot. I'm glad I did b/c I no longer feel pain at all. For the first time ever, I actually feel comfortable.

Get the Graf Sidas customs! They are totally worth it!

The sidas (being softer) work well in the missions

I have Sidas in my Easton SE 16's and Superfeet in my 1300C's. I don't really feel any difference. Both give me great arch support but the Sidas do have a bit more give at the heel, but it doesn't effect my skating. I think both do relatively the same thing with just a slightly different design concept.

i have had both SF yellows and Sidas step-ins with in the last few months. had the grafs first then the yellows. the feel is almost identical, but the SF's seem to stay in place better and have a more grippy fabric weave than the grafs that sometimes feel slippery depending on the socks youre wearing. love em both tho
