Rattling stick

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I bought a s19 last month and have played a few roller games with it. I just played with it on ice for the first time yesterday. Today, while taping it up I noticed that when I tap the blade on the grounf there is a rattling noise coming from the shaft. It felt great yesterday and solid, but im not sure f it got some structural damage causeing the shaft to rattle. Just wondering if its anything to be concerned about. You guys haven't failed me yet so I thought I might as well ask.

Thanks for the help guys!

Could be some stray flakes of carbon that have come loose. I have several sticks that do this.

Is it a two piece or a shaft? If it's a shaft...

It's one of two things and they might be related. First off, the rattling may be a loose blade cause it's not glued on enough. I'd put some tape around the tenon to have it be a tighter fit but that may be lead to you having a harder time pulling the blade out.

Adding to that, it's possible because it's loose it flaked off some of the dried up glue pieces.

Edit: I meant one piece...not two piece of a shaft haha

Agreed. I use tape on the tenon and never a problem removing the blade. I have had a rattle in one of my sticks due to dried glue in the shaft. I thought it would shake out when I changed the blade, but it was from the plug on top. I didn't really care for the stick, so I ever bothered to cut through the knob tape and rid my stick of the rattle.

The ice puck is heavier than the roller puck, so it may have just been enough to loosen the blade.

Its a ops s19. It just kind of vibrates, no real loose rattling, just makes noise when I tap it. When I flip it upside down it doesn't sound like anything is loose and sliding around. I may just be paranoid, but this stick is fairly new and I didn't expact to have problems with it already! I think it may just be the shaft breaking in, but I just want a second opinion.

I agree. If I had to guess, I would say its something random (dry glue, plastic, carbon, etc.) which shouldn't affect peformance. It's hard to tell over the internet.

if it vibrates, then i think it is going.. using the stick on roller will wear the blade out a lot faster than on ice... if you are dropping it on its butt end, and you hear vibration from the blade, then it is going/gone...
