MR MIZUN0 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2011 MSH, I am in the process of organizing a hockey fights cancer game for my college club team. It is our first time planning such an event, so I have a few questions for the MSH community. We want to raise as much money as possible, while obviously keeping our costs down. We plan on going to local news and radio stations to get the word out about the event, and stir up a good sized crowd. I was thinking a 50-50 raffle, selling those small paper stick cards with "in memory of......" for a dollar or two each, and putting them around the rink. Some of the team thought that we could buy special jerseys (purple) and get a simple logo and our numbers on them, and at the end of the game auction them off. Other than that though, what are some other ways to raise as much money as possible? If there are any other suggestions in regards to planning this event, feel free to let me know. MyBoxersSayJoe 133 Report post Posted January 5, 2011 Have you contacted the NHL? What level of hockey is this? We ran a fund-raiser through Hockey Fights Cancer for a varsity game versus our rival last year. Make sure you allow yourself enough time to plan everything. dw91 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2011 Unless you get some great sponsors that will help with the jerseys, or your team is really popular on campus, I would avoid the special jerseys. There was a D2 club team that my school played against in a fundraiser game like this that had special jerseys, and from what I heard, it was a flop. Great idea having a charity game though, its always good to give back to the community. If you are near an NHL team you might try contacting them and getting players to sign some memorabilia to be auctioned, I think that would be a good fundraiser. MatthewRoach7 130 Report post Posted January 10, 2011 I have been to a few benefit games and here are a few things that I noticed. They had local players that play in the NHL sign stuff and had auctions for it. They also had items donated by local biz's that you could by tickets for. Ask around to some places in the area but make sure that you have a formal letter and follow up with them. I work at a Best Buy and we have a budget for donations. My wife is a massage therapist and we donate massages all the time for people to raffle off at benefits.I like the idea about the jerseys. What if you asked for everyone who wanted to play to purchase there own? I also like the idea " selling those small paper stick cards with "in memory of......" for a dollar or two each". I think that everyone as lost a friend or family member to cancer now a days so your heart is in the right place with this. Reach out for as much help as you can get I think that you will find people willing to help! Let us know how it goes.
