Red Bull Crashed Ice

Recommended Posts

Please move if not in appropriate Topic.

So I applied for Red Bull Crashed Ice qualifier and found out yesterday that I was picked to go to the qualifier in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I was wondering if anyone else on the forum has been to the qualifier and has some advice or if anyone has ideas on if I should wear smaller shin pads, pants, elbow pads etc.. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Oggy_3

I've never done that, as cool as it would be. Now, to be honest I really think you should be using the protective that fits you properly and keeps you protective. I can see some pretty bad injuries from crashing or something like that. But good luck when you do the race, you should sport some MSH wear for advertising!

Oh man you're crazy! I watched it on tv a few nights ago, those people are nuts! Whatever though it looks to hard for me, so hopefully you can do well. As for the equipment i would say go with stuff that fits so you dont get hurt. Anyway best of luck, bring home the gold!

My daughter was selected last year but couldn't go for the same reason everyone in hockey can't do stuff "I can't, I've got a game". They were smarter this year as they announced the date of the qualifier when they opened registration.

Looking at the qualifier videos, I'd say go with what is comfortable for you. Smaller is tempting as you don't need to worry about getting hurt in the qualifier. At the same time, you don't need unfamiliar equipment interfering with your agility and quickness. How many from Halifax get to go on to Quebec City?

In regards to your skates, I wonder if a larger flatter radius blade profile would be helpful for stability in an event like that. I would think the philosophy would be closer to skiing in that you want your blades in contact with the ice as much as possible. It's not like you need to have much of a rocker for transitioning since you're going straight.

Congrats and good luck!

I know some folks that have done it, I know some guys got their skates sharper than normal. work on power skating since basically your sprinting the whole time. If you need a place to stay in Halifax shoot me a PM
