bauer supreme classics elbow pads

Recommended Posts

Anyone have a pair of these and can comment on the protection and fit? Do they fit like the rest of the supreme line?

I meant the elbow pads. Sorry for the confusion

are you talking about the Bauer Classic Gold skates? If I remember correctly they were the last Bauer skates to use a traditional leather construction and they were really heavy but I believe they fit like the older supreme line of skates (probably a fair bit narrower then the current ones).

No I was half asleep when posting this and forgot to mention I'm talking about the elbows. Late night hockey makes the brain foggy in the morning

I've used these off and on since COOPER called them EK46 Professionals back in the 1970's. The name was changed to EP 700 in the late 80's or early 90's when Cooper went from white pads to Grey and Blue. Copies were made by other companies over the years, but most were not as good. Sherwood came out with a pretty faithful copy in their 5030 Classic line..... At one point this was one of THE go to PRO elbow pads.

They are a basic no frills protection - they are NOT the body-armour\Jofa style that most modern offerings evolved from. There is no protection at all for the front of the bicep. It's all foam padding with plastic inserts in the slash guard over the forearm, along the outside of the elbow joint and upper arm, and inside\between the layers of padding over the point of the elbow. They are NOT anatomical like the Jofa styles (no deep plastic elbow cup), but IMHO they offer more freedom of movement. They also seem to have a tendency to rotate around your arm\elbow area if they are skinny....

FWIW - my other elbow pads are white Jofa ASD (if there were model numbers they've long ago worn off) from IRRC the late 80's or early 90's

I like the movement of them. I used them for a while when I got back into hockey. I got hit and fell right on my elbow and that was enough for me to switch. The padding is thin and soft enough that a good hard fall like mine will result in your elbow pounding right through it. I switched almost immediately.

Sounds like you experienced the pad rotation and came down on the thin (maybe 1/4") padding that is on the inside edge of the elbow. The padding over the elbow itself is several layers glued together with a plastic strip sandwiched in there and is about an inch thick. Never had a problem falling on the point of my elbow if they stayed in place. If the moved, well it really sucked.
