Pro Lite holder changeover

Recommended Posts

I finally am getting a pair of Pro Tacks in my size. I love the boots, but really don't like the Pro Lite holders.

I'm looking for suggestions for replacement holders (with reasons why you like that holder).

I'm currently using and liking Vector 10.0's wit E-Pro's. When I was younger (and faster) I used Tuuk Custom Pros (I think). I have a pair of new Mission Pitch holders in the same size (280). I have tried the pitch holders on the neutral and +1 settings with my Kor Shift 2's, and they still feel really strange (I'm a good skater, and I feel like my feet are everywhere in the Kors/Pitch's).

- Are there any holders out there that have the same hole patterns as the Pro Lite so that there's no need to drill/fill the bottom of the skate?

- Would ePros on the Tacks be likely to feel similar to ePros on my Vector 10's (without lifts or any modifications)?

- Might the Pitch holders have a very different feel (more like an EPro or Tuuk) on the Tacks vs the Kors?

My gut tells me that the easiest route would be to buy a pair of ePro's to have mounted on the Tacks, but I'm very open to any suggestions.

Thanks in advance for any input!

E Pro is probably your best bet. The blade is the same as the Pro Lite so if you are comfortable on that blade you should have an easy trasition to the E Pro. As far as the holes lining up I am not sure if they are the same but I am sure someone on here has swapped PL3 to Epro and can offer more insight on the hole patterns.

Anything that had PL3s on them before have to be redrilled. I was called in to do a PL3/EPro swap by the LHS here in town earlier this week. A couple of holes worked, a few were too close for comfort. But at least you keep the steel.

You're probably better off with LS2 if you are concerned about overlapping holes - LS2 is a narrower holder.

Thanks for the help so far, guys.

I don't know enough to know if I should be concerned about overlapping holes. I'm a big guy and a powerful skater (I used to loosen rivets on my Pro Lites/1052s pretty often). I'd prefer to have the conversion done in such a way would minimize the risk of this happening again.

I suppose that another option might be just to give the Pro Lites a try for a bit. I suppose I could always swap the out later if I started to have problems, right? (please correct me if I'm wrong).

As a bigger guy, I could feel the pro lite "give" a little when I really dug into the ice. I love the Pitch, but I wouldn't slap them on new skates, just because they're going to be hard to replace holders or steel if you break them. As JR said, with ePro you will at least be able to use the steel from the pro lites.

You can swap them out later. I swapped out PL3s for E-Pros on my 1052s after wearing the 1052s for most of a season. Took a shot in the foot and the PL3 broke so badly the front tower was gone.

I've seen a number of PL3 holders fail over the last couple seasons. Odds are, sooner or later you'll be swapping them out, especially if you're hard on holders.
