one95 skate pricing question?

Recommended Posts

PLEASE MOVE.. WRONG FORUM.. sorry, thought I was in general equipment discussion.

Anyway I was at my LHS today and their one95 skates are on sale for $199. I have x40s right now but $199 seems ridiculously cheap, is it a good deal?

Thanks

It's a great deal, but only if it fits your foot shape. If not, it's a terrible deal, as is any skate that doesn't fit. If the Vapor fits your foot well, odds are the One95 won't, based on the experience of other folks.

I think one reason you'll see discounts like that is that they don't have many sizes available.

Alright thanks. I was just getting a sharpening today so next time I go in I'll try some on.

Where is this shop? Driving distance from Vancouver BC?

I'll check the sizes, yesterday the one on the shelf was pretty small. and I'll try to find out. I let you know the shop after I get my pair tonight ;-)

The one95 skates are on sale because they fall apart much quicker total 1's. They are very light but if you play competively and skate a lot you will notice a lot of wear and tear. Also the vapor series and the one95 series are different types of skates. The vapor series have more of an aggressive stance while the one95's are more tailored to stand up skaters. You will notice a difference. Honestly the x40's aren't too bad of a skate. Unless you are in need of new skates my advice would be to stick with what you've got.

Yeah didn't know if I should pick them up a little big for next year, because I'm out growing these x40s.

I haven't heard this before. How long did your One95s last you? Do you know many other people this happened to?

You haven't heard that before because it's not true.

lolol your joking right? one95's are pretty much tanks compared to totalones. they are on sale because old stock

how you skate has nothing to do with the skate itself (profiling the blade can change everything)

the guy is looking for one95 (top level skate) and you suggest x40's???

He mentioned X40s because that's what the OP already has, and is wondering if it's worth upgrading to one95s. Agreed though that I've heard generally glowing reviews of one95s and have heard very few reports of poor durability, and that they're only on sale because they're old stock.

As for whether or not to buy them, if they have them in your size/width and if they do fit you very well, then that's a fantastic deal at $200. BUT if X40s fit you well, one95s probably won't, one95s are wider (especially in the forefoot) than X40s. Getting a close to perfect fit is much more important than getting a slightly lighter, slightly stiffer skate, if your X40s fit you better than the one95s the performance you get out of the one95s will be better, not worse.
