Cage Position

Recommended Posts

I don't know if this has been discussed recently as I haven't been on the site lately and I'm also not even sure how I would search for this so here it goes. I've been noticing a lot of players who have to wear cages, particularly ones that are playing juniors, that have the mounts on the cage up instead of down. Is there a reason behind this? I think it looks real goofy and looks like they have too tall of a cage. Thoughts?

Isn't that the proper way to install some cages? And who cares what it looks like as long as it's properly fit.

Just making a statement and has nothing to do with style points or looking cool. Next time I'll try to keep it as unopinioned as possible.

Sorry if I sounded harsh. It's just that some guys put looks ahead of safety.

No offense intended. You did ask for thoughts, and ventured an opinion on looks. So did others.

Sometimes you have to flip the clips on a cage up or down to make it fit properly with a particular helmet. Way too often I see guys with large cages and then the clips flopped down to get to hang even farther off their chin when they should be wearing a medium.

Just a guess, but you may have kids coming in with oversized cages and the coaches/trainers are actually making them wear it properly. At least, that would be the responsible thing for the coaches and trainers to do.

Most if not all itech cages are mounted with the plastic clips going under the top of the cage while bauers just use the simple metal clips and the clips go above the top of the cage. Or at least in helmets I've encountered, it's done this way.
