Big 10 Hockey Officially Announced

Penn State will probably rob a few eastern teams of recruits...I'm not sure anything will change for Minnesota or Wisconsin. Wisconsin recruits a lot out of MN and the Chicagoland area and nationally. Minnesota will get the lions share of their players from in-state and the occasional out of state guy. Michigan will get their guys from all over like usual. Not sure what changes for them. I think it'll impact the smaller eastern schools moreso than anything with PSU entering the fray

You will see them recruiting Canada and Europe more and more as there is only so much "local" talent

Ushl is by far best junior a league in world with 320 kids playing in it, located Nebraska to Fargo to Ann arbor to Indianapolis. Right in the heart of big ten country. They'll continue to get a majority of their recruits there. If anything you'll see an increase of kids being recruited there bc league is expanding without hurting talent pool. Don't be surprised to see 20 teams within five years for ushl. And they keep pulling more kids from Jr a Canada, ejhl and ajhl and hs. Colleges prefer the kid who has played juniors for a year or two, so more and more are going that route than before.

Michigan has always recruited Canada well... Red Berenson, David Oliver, Brian Wiseman, Brenden Morrison, Steve Shields, Aaron Ward, John Madden, Marty Turco, Andrew Cogliano, Mike Comrie and Cammalleri... and on and on. In fact, there was an article in the Michigan student newspaper today about the pipeline between St Mike's and Michigan. There have been plenty of years where Canadians have made up the majority of Michigan's roster.

Canada is not very far away from Ann Arbor

I think their best players have come from BC though..Not Ontario, suprisingly

Whats the hockey scene like up in the UP?

keep in mind just because a player is playing in bc doesn't mean he's not from ontario, michigan is a safe bet with a lot of kids from ontario because its also pretty close to home.
