Help with TO Tongue/Boot

Recommended Posts

I've had the TO's for a couple months now, switched from Vapor X60's. The first couple weeks they felt great, but during the break-in period they caused big bone spurs right under my ankles (painful-bigger one on my right foot), which is an uncommon place for them. Since usually Bauer Bumps occur at the heels, I started tightening the skates up much tighter than normal.(I keep my skates loose normally) what my LHS recommended. This seemed to help but I am in a Stiff tongue now which feels good. The biggest difference from being in X60's I always go tongues out these flex tongues don't "stay" but flex and recoil throughout your strides.

I was wondering if it would help if I put in a new tongue? What kind of tongue and where can I get one? (the white felt I would get from EWH is no longer up there)Would switching tongues mess with the boot at all since they weren't made together? I just feel like I need to stick with the tongues I've had in the past since this isn't working. Should I just sell these and get the APX or back to the X60's?? Thanks for your time and any help you can give.

James

this description is a bit confusing so I might be off, but given that fit of X60 & T1s is quite different and you mentioned getting 'big bone spurs' I'd venture to say that the skates simply don't fit, and so you'd be better off switching to what does fit until it's too late ie your feet are messed up or skates aren't marketable.

Its up to you you on selling them you can replace the tongue on them if you want. you can try to find the reebok tongues online somewhere or Find a Nash dealer (step steel) and they have felt tongues in black and white. As far as the bone spur goes thats sound more like poor fitment of the skates.

Well the bone spurs aren't that big maybe I over-exaggerated lol. One is the size of a half grape while the one on my right ankle is closer to a full-sized grape. The skates fit correctly, I went through many pairs until I found the right fit. Would putting in a new tongue help me as far as not liking the reflex tongue? Or would it hurt the overall boot? I just don't want to switch/sell the skates without giving them some thought, I've had my experience with impulse decisions and need to use some patience!

Well bone spurs are due to your heel not being locked in or ankle. You might want to get some fillers for that negative space. I got bone spurs and they stopped growing an hurting after I bought some ankle sleeves. It helps grip the inside of the of the skate, and fills in some space. You might be able to double up on socks.

You can put any tongue you want on them and it won't mess anything else up. In fact, many people order Total Ones with different tongues.

That's good to know, where are some places I can get the tongues? I did like the x60's fit but the problem with those (they were customs) the person that fitted me sized me double width when i was just a wide, so that was my problem with those skates. I'm in a 7.5D now in the T1 (D=E) I feel like changing the tongues would be more comfortable for me, I have no problem with the boot, I love it. I just don't want to switch tongues and basically throw $900 out the window. Thanks everyone,

James

Yeah I think when I was tying them really loose at the beginning is what caused the bone spurs (heel not locked in) and probably where it was moving around. I felt a big difference actually tightening them using a locking type technique.

Ankle Sleeves...may fix your problem? I am going to try, and I have similar problem....Good luck!

I'm not sure, i think I need to find a good way to lace them up properly to lock in my heels/ankles while providing enough flex room in the top two eyelets. Maybe going down one.
