WTF? Ak Bars Kazan

Recommended Posts

Get with the times, bro. Toronto, Toronto!

Man, thats crazy. What a lineup. 11 NHL'ers, 5 all stars. And maybe add Broduer. Unbelievable.

Bah... you damn Rangers fan, Toronto was just making fun of the rangers by doing that... ;)

They must really be confident there's not going to be an NHL season with the signings...

its amazing that these clubs can now pay this much for hockey player..when just in the recent past...that was probably more than the salary for the entire club...

Can anyone say "Superleague"?... a few....maybe....6 teams from Europe(not necessarily existing teams) who could afford to play teams at this level, and build stadiums to match, with 6 NA teams, later adding teams from China...they will not be long coming if that country gets the bug....remember the US$ is at it's lowest level ever....vs the rest of the world...I know "Shark" will have something to say...but it could happen

If the bulk of the NA fans(Canada excepted) don't want hockey...I believe you will find fans elswhere where the blood still boils...

Then the NHL as we know it becomes a minor league. In Europe just like here, the revenues for the existing pro leagues are not sufficient to support the "stars" unilaterally, but what about for 6 teams here and 6 in Europe/Asia in a Superleague with new larger stadiums?.....that also solves the problem of the salaries for the remaining old NHL teams...The players who do not make the superleague would probably be nore than happy to accept appropriate remuneration for playing in what have now become "the minors".

Just a thought on the NHL internal "Cabal" theory...which could go a long way to explain why certain "non actions" at present seem to make no sense.

I await my formal "bashing".....

I thought their plan was to throw huge jack at Khabibulin to play net.

Although, why would they do that when they already have Fred Brathwaite? :D

The only problem is that is seems only a few international teams can compete financially with the NHL salaries. If all the leagues could pay near to what the NHL does, you would see very few Euro's leaving their families and homes for NA. if those leagues did have the money, I think they would be some of the strongest, since most of the players would stay over in their homelands.

Plus, I wouldn't count on a city having their 1000th anniversary every year, either.

Ak Bars Kazan is going all out for the Russian SuperLeague title this season because it's the city's 1000th anniversary.

They don't care about profits this year. And that isn't sustainable long term.

I think if there were to be a true international league created with say 12 teams to start, and eventually a reasonable ceiling on the total # of teams, and for example if China get's as into hockey as they are into figure skating and speed skating..then I certainly think there could well be a true world wide superleague formed. I am not talking about using even existing facilities or existing teams unless they become a "base unit"...I think there could be enough international interest in these games to have a decent TV audience as well...helping with the financing.

I think with the interest in basketball in Europe, larger stadiums could well be built as dual purpose arenas....hey it's just a thought. Without major TV contracts, I do not see whichever league remains as the "top" level of hockey, sustaining mega salaries. Maybe the international format would insure enough of a television audience (with a restricted schedule even) to satisfy many of the existing problems.

nevermind that these people won't want to live in these cities where they are taxed 50% with little to no loopholes on their earnings..

NHL is not negotiating so they can declare an impasse and implement their own system next year...then the NHLPA will go to the NLRB and try to get them to intervene.but the owners will say they are only doing what they are legally allowed and that the NHLPA has not given them another proposal or changed their stance..the longer they go without negotiating..the better it is for the NHL>.that's why the Thrashers minority owner got such a spanking for his comments

I think that an international super league would be great. The players could fly all over the world on jets like the Concorde (I am not sure on the spelling, but it is the really really fast one). I think it would be more exciting than NHL in the sense that it would put nation against nation, just like the Olympics.

I think that is when the union goes to the NLRB and asks them to step in..likely bringing that Atlanta comment back as evidence they didn't negotiate in good faith.

I'll try and find the details to all of it...

I agree Jim. Its pretty easy to realize why the NHL owners are not even trying to communicate...And that is so they can declare an impasse. But once this happens, can the players then strike? I am a little confused on this..

Either way, once that happens, the NHL can pretty much freely set their own guidelines on how they want the system to work, etc...Right?

The players will strike if the owners are successful in getting an impasse declared and they can unilaterlaly implement a hard cap system.

But, MLB owners tried going this route in 1994/95 and it backfired on them as the judge in their case said that the owners weren't negotiatiing in good faith, so they made them play games with a players friendly system in place. And that cut the legs out of the owners and that's why they got a bad deal out of it.

Neither sidfe is negotiating at all, let alone in good faith. It's never a good sign when your adversary has the same plan thatyou do and right now both sides want to "out wait" the other side.

Looks like Kazan is trying to put together the TB Lightning over there (I think Khabibulin is supposed to sign with Kazan too)...too bad Marty St. Louis signed in Switzerland.

Hey Rangers fans, at least the Leafs never paid Bobby Holik $9.5M. That's was a boneheaded deal if ever there was one. Glen Sather my ass - the Oil is better off without him.

And I love Jagr's quote to the Czech media, on his signing with Omsk:

"My Kladno fans should not be angry. I never promised to stay here the whole season." Sounds just like Jags, sell out for the top dollar, even if it is your home town.

I used to hate Scott Gomez (just because of his slappable face), but have such newfound respect for him. He understands how fortunate he is, just like Zholi.

According to most reports the Devils and Leafs were both willing to match the Rangers offer. He chose NY because he didn't want to go back to NJ, liked the NYC area and the taxes in NY let him keep more of his money.

By the way, it was Dolan who wanted him signed, not Slats. Sometimes you just have to do what the boss wants no matter how stupid it is.

Dolan is the king of stupidity.

He forced Neil Smith into signing Theo Fleury even though Smith felt it was a really bad move.
