Toews curve

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, so I was in the LHS last week and was looking at the P14. And according to the description on a few websites (like hockey monkey) I expected it to be similar to the P92 but with a less severe curve, and only a slightly open face... But I was surprised when I saw a big toe curve with a square toe.

Were my expectations completely off, or has there been other confusion regarding the P14.

Cheers.

i think you were off, maybe you were looking at the description of a P106 maybe? but the P14 is the biggest out of the bauers that im aware of.

your description sounds exactly like the description of the p29 that is no longer available on mybauer. it was described as a less aggressive p92 on their website. i think you may have read the wrong description as the p14 was always known as a pretty aggressive curve, albeit a touch less open the the p92.

Bit of a side question here, but for those who have actually compared the curves side by side in real life, how does the lie/rocker of the P14 compare to other popular Bauer curves like the P88 and P92?

I thought the p14 had a round toe, or did they change it. Wasn't the p10 a mild toe curve with a square shaped toe?

I would say the p14 is similar to Easton's iginla toe...not exactly square but not round either

Side by side the p92 dwarfs the p14. Blade height, length, and toe height. I would say similar as far as rocker goes. If anything the p14 is slightly more aggressive when it comes to rocker. It is milder at the heel than my p92 and then really rounds out toward the toe, where the p92 is a constant shape when it comes to the rocker.

Thanks! And in terms of lie, would you say the P14 is significantly different? I'm assuming you use your P92 and P14 with similar length shafts, do you get wear on your tape job at the same location, or more towards the heel with the P14 vs P92?

I can actually use a shorter shaft with the p14. I think it is due to the shorter blade. The rocker makes the toe play a little more upright than the p92 as well. I shoot from the cup created around the mid section to the toe and I drag it toward me as I snap so the tape typically wears lightly in the middle and heavier near the toe. Same with the crazy ovi or pattern 10.

And as far as your expectations, I have noticed some sites have the p14 listed as a 3/8ths curve wich would make it seem pretty small.

Here is a side-by-side with a P14 (from a One95 Stick'Um) and Easton Sakic (P14 on left):

My P14 is about the same length as the Sakic, slightly similar curve (P14 opens up nicely at the toe), and the toe is round as well. Hope that helps...

thanks guys... side question... whats more versatile a P92 or a P14?

Depends on you and the way you stick handle or shoot. I can get quicker shots off with the shorter blade of the p14, but the p92 is much easier for slap and snap one timers. Plus the extra size all around of the p92 makes deflections easier.

For what it is worth, my p92 has more toe than the Easton Sakic.

My X:60 has the P14 pattern and my T1 is a P92 and I've used them both quite a bit and can say there is a noticeable difference.

The P14 is not exactly a square or a round toe. I'd almost venture to say it's a weird hybrid. As far as the curve goes, it's more similar to a P88 than a P92 with more of a toe curve. It's great for hard, accurate wristers but I've found it difficult to get those quick rising snap shots in close quarters as compared to the P92. I've also found it easier to make better passes with the P14 because the P92 has a tendency to flip the puck, at least for me. Hope this helps.

\\I have noticed that when they are side by side heels lined up, to my eye the p92 looks like a similar curve if the p14 did not end as fast as it does. I guess what I am saying is, if you shaved down the toe and the toe curve of the p92 you would get the p14.

would the p14 be a shorter version of the easton shanahan?

I have both and although the P14 is shorter it is not exact same curve shape. My Shanahan is also taller blade and toe is more squared.

anyone know if Bauer makes this in the X:60 tapered blades? I can't seem to find them.

They do not, according to the 2011 catalog.

Edit: However, according to the Holiday catalog that JR just put up, the P14 will be available on the tapered APX blades.
