Bauer One100 vs. CCM U+ CL

Recommended Posts

First post here and I hope I chose the right forum. I am in the process of choosing a new skate and have narrowed it down between the 0ne100 and the U+ CL with my preference being for the Bauers. My question is on fit. First off I cannot find a dealer in my area (New Hampshire) that has either model in my size (10.5 EE). I see that the CCM's only come in single E. Are they as wide as the Bauer EE? I went to a LHS and they told me to keep checking their website for availability of the One100 in my size as they do not currently have them in stock and they said they could not special order just one pair. Is that normal procedure for a large LHS? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Absolutely try them on. I was in the same boat but looking for an 11 D according to the brannock device ( just found out that is the name of that thing they used to measure your foot and have been waiting to use it). Tried the CCM U+12 in that size, Vapor x-50 in that size and One 100 in that size. The X-50 felt best. Then for fun, I tried a size 10 D in the One 100 and it felt perfect. Passed the pencil test and everything. I was coming from a One 90 10D that was too shallow (failed pencil test miserably and made my feet go numb). Go figure. My point is the One 100's seemed to be sized different from earlier Bauer supreme models and all the brannock devices in the world can't make up for how it feels on your foot. Why not try a different size than you expect. Does your LHS have them in a 10 or a D width? try that first.

At my LHS, which is probably average size, if not a little bigger, they are able to order products for me in their next shipment from...say Bauer. It may take a week or two, but I tell them what I want, and typically they can get it for me. I tell them that I am going to buy them once they come in, and they don't even ask for a payment before the product comes in. I don't know if all LHS can do that, but it seems like they should be able to. Just my two cents...

be patient. it could be that the shops in your area, like most other shops, are awaiting their shipments of new equipment for the new season. if you can wait, i'd say give them til mid to late may to get their new stock in before going the online route.

Hey, just curious as to what part of NH you're in. I'm in the Manchester area (Litchfield) and it seems that a lot of the local shops are pretty thin on stock around here too, but most I deal with are always willing to order something in if needed.

I'm in the Lakes region but I will travel to try on a pair in my size. I was down in Nashua last week and the manager of the LHS there told me he would be getting more stock in a couple of weeks.

You are correct in that the One100 is cut differently from the models below it. The One100 is cut deeper than the lower models.

PureHockey? I was told they will have the new stock on the shelves by 4/29...let's see.

In comparing a Supreme 100 with a CCM U+ 12/CL, both in 6-1/2 D widths, the CCM skate is slightly deeper and slightly longer. I can't say how the wider boots compare. Perform a pencil test and select the boot that fits your foot best.

Yes, Pure Hockey and thanks for the date.

What is the pencil test and how do you perform it?

Airedale1, the pencil test is this:

Step into your skate with your socks on, kick your heel back like normal, fold the tongue out forward and take a pencil and put it across the 3 and 4th eyelet of the skate. It shouldn't touch your foot, but it's probably OK if it grazes it. You really don't want the pencil to rock on your foot or to have a ton of space between the pencil and your foot. Keep in mind that this is just a guideline to help determine if the depth of the skate is going to be OK. A final determination of fit should be done by actually lacing up the skate, like always.

Hope this helps.

By the way, I was at Sports Arena in Hooksett today and they already got their Bauer shipment in.

Thank you and I just called the Hooksett store and they did not have the one100 in my size.

Well, it's now 5/4 and they have not gotten in any more of the one100's, I did find another dealer closer to my home that was glad to order them for me in my size and I will have them on Friday. Thanks all.

Not sure what their issue is, but it sure seems that they have reduced the stocking levels in the stores. Maybe they should focus on actually carrying things in the stores instead of just telling you to go buy it on their website!

Glad to hear you'll finally get the size you need.

I think that one factor may be that the Vapor APX was just released and they may be just stocking more of that model and not renewing their stock of the others e.g. one100's. That being said, what I really can't understand from a customer service point of view is; why wouldn't they just order what I wanted like this other dealer did? If this other dealer (a much smaller LHS) could do it; why could they not? I was very impressed with their store, their customer service though, not so much.

CCM has the single "E" patented for skate widths (Reebok uses it also as CCM manufactures their skates). That is the only reason the other brands use "EE" and "W"(Easton) to describe their wide skate widths. It's not like shoes where EE is wider than single E...

doesn't really explain why rbk has "E" and "EE" and ccm only has "E" which I find too narrow
