Switching from Reebok to Bauer Skates

Recommended Posts

I have been using reebok skates for the last few years and i recently tried on a pair of Bauer one100 and really liked the feel and ankle lock. I am in a reebok 11k and the skate is breaking down and i have really liked them. I just would like to see if anyone has switched from reebok to bauer and noticed any performance difference in stride and any notice of feel from the e-pro to tuk and if it is better and the fact that the Bauer is a deeper and stiffer boot. I did search and welcome any feedback

From my own experience, one major difference will probably be that you will feel more on your heels in the Bauers than on the Reeboks. The Reeboks tend to have a slightly more forward pitch overall. I can't say for sure if its the boot or the holder/steel, but out of the box Reeboks are more forward pitched. Reebok heels are wider than Bauers assuming you had the standard width heel on the 11k's (I think the 11k's were also offered in a narrow heel width as an option). The One 100's will be a stiffer boot than the Reebok 11k. There is also more volume in the toebox/forefoot area in the Bauer Supreme.

Recently went from wearing CCM tacks pretty much my whole life to wearing Bauer One100s. Not exactly Reebok to Bauer, but from E-Pro to TUUK. I love the Bauers, took a lil to get used to but they are great and I feel they perform much better than my previous skates.

Thnaks for all the feedback, i do notice that i do have to pump the skates up more to lock the heel and really liked the feel of the Bauer's. I know there debates on quality of skates as the reebok are made in canada and Bauer is China. I hav ebeen very happy with the durability of reebok and it comes to fit and both fit me well, i also hear that you can make quicker turns with the tukk blades.

That is not true.

Had One95's, and 11K's. Fit is similar as others have stated above, not like going from an 11k to say Vapor or something. The Bauers definitely put you on your heels more, and I did not care for that. You can always lift or profile the blade so I don't see that as a huge issue. The biggest difference is the stiffness of the two skates. The 11k is way more flexible, which I really liked, but breaks down quicker. The Bauer will be stiff for a long time, but you have to prefer a stiff skate. I do not. Fits are pretty similar, just depends on how much stiffness you want, IMO.

I have never had a stiff skate so i am not sure on the benifits. I am 220lbs 6'1 so i wonder if i can still flex the boot on the bauer. When people say you will be more on your heels will you have to compinsate with a deeper stride or not? did you notice you did not stop and start faster or slower? Thanks again for everyone's help.

I recently went from an intermediate skate (CCM Vector 05) to a stiff skate (CCM U+ 12) and absolutely love it. My skating took a major leap forward. I also worked with No Icing Sports (Jimmy on the MS board) to profile my runners (for more aggressive forward pitch). I am very happy with the results.

I think the biggest benefit to a stiff skate is that you don't lose any motion in the transition from foot, to boot, to ice. The skates are so stiff that they allow even subtle movements to translate to the ice. The thing I personally don't like is it feels to me like your foot is in a cast in some skates, and there is less ability to get that deep knee bend, that you could from a less stiff skate. It definitely has it's pluses, and I can absolutely understand why players like it, but I prefer a greater range of motion in a skate. As to the on your heels comment. I feel the Bauers seem to move your body weight more over the heel putting your stride, and body in a more upright position, while the Reebok's put your weight more over the toes putting your body in a more forward position. When I skate in Bauers after Reeboks I feel like I am skating straight up and down instead of leaning aggressively forward. It does make backward skating easier though.

Thanks for the feedback on how the stiff skate will affect my stride and feel. This was that part that worried me as i was going to be buying these skates off Ebay and i do like how the reeboks feel and flex, i thought i would try something new and do see a lot of people skating in bauers. Decisions!!!!

i went to reebok 9k to bauer supreme one 75..and then this year i just bought the bauer vapor APX..those are all great skate...reebok were very comfy but in term of durability those are not the strongest that for sure

for that reason i went into bauer...after 1 season i burned my one 75..they will be good for outside skating..the apx is very stiff..but im pretty confident they will last for long...its harder to get really well into it..i skated 4 times yet..getting close to perfect though..

so in my opinion you will never regret a bauer skate..you will get use to it thats a sure thing...i tried the one100 and feels like a really good skate...so yeah maybe try a vapor skate before supreme just to compare? you never hear a bad review on bauer especially for skate
