Shin guard sizing

Recommended Posts

First off, I tried searching this topic first and didnt find my answer, so please dont blast me if this question has already been answered.

Im looking at getting new shin pads and I am looking for a little help. I have an old set of 14" Bauer 3000's and they crack after blocking a shot. I have looked at the new Bauer line, and dont like the way they fit, so Im looking at either CCM, or Reebok now. My question comes from looking at the size charts on their respective websites. Im 5'8" with pretty large calfs, and Bauer says I should be in a 14", and RBK says 15", are they about the same size? Are Bauer's longer than the CCM and RBK? I wear mine over the tongue of my skates and the Bauers I have come down to a little more than one finger above the first eyelet of my skates. Any input is appreciated.

Oh, and BTW, i will being going to my LHS, but last time I was in their selection was very limited.

Thanks

Having not getting the new Reebok shins in yet I cannot compare their height. But based on your height and what I remember you're most likely going to be 14s. I'm 6'1 and when I tried them on I recall 14s could work for me, albeit small, but could stay up.

Now as to whether or not ccm or Reebok is gonna be your better bet? Can't answer that. Did u try on the supremes? Very symmetrical shins which I like more than my x60s. I also have large calves and prefered the x60s over Reebok, ccm and warriors.

Definitely try them on. I find Reebok's sizing chart to be off for me. I am 6' and according to the sizing chart I should be wearing 16" shins but wear a 15". I would for sure try on different sizes and see what works best for you.

I actually bought a pair of the 2011 Supreme One60's and the calf strap barely fits around my calf, super tight and hanging on by the very end of the velcro. I sold them to a bantam that I coach and got my money back out of them. They were also tight down the rest of my shin and were too narrow at the ankle for my liking as well. My mom had sent me those for my birthday, so they came from an online retailer.

Don't forget that there's more than height that comes into it. I'd look more at inseam length, since you're dealing with a leg size.

Mine's 32", and the Reebok 8K in 15" works for me, outside the tongues.

You could always use a tape measure on your old pads, from the bottom to the middle of the knee, and compare to Reebok pads at the LHS, or that a fellow player has in the dressing room.

Thanks for all the input guys!!! I went to my LHS on my way home from work, and tried on several brands, Bauer, Easton and so on. I went with the 14" RBK 7K's. They had just got their new shipment in so it worked out nice.

Again, thanks for all the help.

Yeah go for a reebok size where you are on the taller side of the recommended range. the 16" says 5'10-6'2 in the description, I'm 5'11 and they are on the verge of being unusable for me.

edit: oops too late, glad you tried them on though.

Personally I wear a RBK 17 size with a 6 ft height. Obviously I wear them over the tongues. But the point is - nobody would recommend me to buy them in such size, only I personally could determine what works best and what I want.
