Looking for new skates, Shop sized me wrong

Recommended Posts

Long story short, The LHS I got my x:30's at sized me wrong and had me walk out with size 12 skates when my shoe is a 13, he said he knew right and that I would be fine. My fault was trusting him. I bought them a little over a year ago and they had a 30 day return policy, some family issues kept me from being able to play during that year. ANYWAY now I am looking into getting a new pair of skates, My foot is long (sz 13 US) and narrow ( Bauer D).

I'm not specifically looking for something in a skate, but my price range sits in and around the $200.00-250.00 range. I was looking at the RBK 6k's and the Easton EQ30's.

I know you guys could help me out, everyone here seems to be a wealth of knowledge! What skate would fit my foot, or what suggestion do you have that would be a better option!

My feet sound somewhat similar to you, I wear size 11.5 shoes and have narrow feet too. I bought the EQ30's about a month ago and couldn't be happier. For $180 at my LHS they seem like a pretty good deal. I'd go try on everything in your price range and go from there, something tells me you will have trouble with the reeboks though

I had heard that the RBK skates come a little bit wide, but my issue is that in order to try on any skates in my size I have to drive about an hour to the monkey, and its a hassle! I want to buy LHS, but none of them show big feet any love!! (6'4 184lbs 13sz) !

Yeah I was swimming in CCM's, Reeboks, and the width in the vapors was good but there was no heel lock. Supreme had good heel lock but he width in the front was too much. Easton's were perfect, from there it was between the 40's and the 30's. Driving an hour sucks, but it's better than getting another pair of skates that don't fit. It is well worth it in the end. I drove 40 minutes to Gunzo's in Chicago just so I could get fitted correctly.

There are a lot of people that would kill to have a shop with their selection so close.

I guess It came out wrong, I don't like going to the monkey on a personal level, I love to support my LHS, and with my actual LHS screwing me up I feel guilty going to the monkey. But hey, Whatever it takes to get some nice fitting skates on my feet! So is Easton the only brand that narrow-footers have chosen?

Those big dogs gotta be great for side kicks!

I'd find it hard to want to spend my money at a LHS that fit me wrong and cost me extra money because of it. Especially if I'm thinking in terms of "supporting my LHS".

Sometimes a decrease in sales is the only thing gets the attention of a business owner. A lot of them can be led to think everything's right, if the sales are good.

Believe me, I wont be going back to that shop again. But hey guys, lets get back to the skates!

Right now I'm looking at S16 & EQ30's. Would anyone have any other suggestions?

wait, im confused about the sizing thing. i wear a 10.5 shoe and an 8 skate. a 13 to a 12 doesnt exactly sound strange. what about the skates didnt feel right?

the easton s-line isnt really a 'narrow" fit. im right on the line between a d and an e and my s17s fit perfectly.

Well, They are way to big in the heel area, and the toe area. My foot moves around inside of the skate after getting baked and using wax laces to keep them nice and tight. I feel like im about to break my ankle when stopping. I used to wear an 11 and 10.5 in some CCM's but this guy SWORE me up and down the 12 was my size.

Sounds like they're too wide, a separate issue, and "Bauer D" doesn't really nail down a width. I wear 13W shoes, and 11D One95s. The X60, on the other hand, was a bit too narrow in the forefoot for me. It sounds like you really need to go somewhere and try on a number of skates.

Graf G3 in N or R, or a G5 in N might be options.

Thanks everyone.

I have taken all of these different brands into consideration, I guess I will just take the trip up to the Monkey and annoy one of the sales associates! Nothing like trying on 8 different pairs of skates!

Thanks again everyone, I really do appreciate the feedback.
