Leaving Skates in the Car?

Recommended Posts

If I have to leave my gear in the car for more than a few minutes in the summer I try to park in the shade, crack a window or two (luckily I have a hatchback and not a seperate trunk so the air will get back there) and use a sun visor. That's far from a perfect solution and shade isn't always available, but it keeps the heat down a bit.

I have a visor for the windshield and a couple shades for the side windows. It really makes a big difference. I'm really starting to consider paying an extra $30 a month to park in the garage at work.

I remember leaving an old pair of Vapor XXXXs in the trunk for an hour. The clear protectoe on the quarters I put on completely melted off and oozed it's way onto the shoulder pads in the car. Imagine pulling pizza cheese from a slice when it's right out of the oven...that was me trying to separate them.

Here in Vegas (just like AZ) it doesn't matter if you crack your windows or have a sun shade. If you can't park in covered parking the inside of the car becomes an oven. In the middle of the summer it hurts to breathe when you first get in. Those videos of people cooking eggs on a hood aren't lying. Trunks are even worse because you can't vent them any. I won't leave my gear in the car unless it's for a very short period. Not only do the skates get superheated, everything does.

Crap. I have baseball at 6:30 and hockey at 10. Too hot to keep my stuff in the truck...looks like I have to come home in between. The field is about 3 blocks from the rink...I live on the other end of town. FML!

If you leave a window open and put on a small fan inside the car, the fan will ventilate the air so it wont get nearly as hot as otherwise with no fan or open windows. Unless it's desert hot, I would personally use this instead of driving all the way home. Of course, possibilities of theft is something you want to keep in mind, so it all depends on where you will be in the mean time, how safe the area where you will park the car is. Just my two cents.

On a side note if you ever want to break in your baseball glove, I leave mine in my car for a few days and presto!

But I do leave my inlines in my car on and off during the spring/fall when temps are in the 50s-70s tops and haven't had any issue, I like to take a skate on my break at work to relieve any stress.

I just ordered some new goalie skates and need to bake em. Today was about 100 degrees and I think I found my way of baking the skates =)

Only if you have the fan venting the air out of the car, otherwise, you might turn your car into a convection oven. On the other hand, you'll get better baking results.
