Need advice on girdles. Opinions on the best ones.

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to buy a new girdle. I currently have the Easton Synergy 10' girdle and I despise it. The protection is nice but the craftsmanship on the girdle is atrocious. I've had it for less than a year and the stitching is coming apart on the pants and the top strap has ripped away from the pant three times now. I've had enough of trying to sew them back together. I'm looking for some feedback on the Warrior Projekt girdle, the CCM Vector Pro girdle, the CCM Pro Tacks Girdle (the blue and white one from 08 I believe), and the new Bauer Supreme Total One Adaptable Core Pad. I don't live close to any really decent hockey shops in order to go and try them all on so I'm stuck ordering from the internet. Any input on any of these would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have been using the Bauer Total One Girdle for about a month and half playing 2-3 times per week. I'm 6'0 206 and I went with a size large. The fit is very good, perfect length and the pads stay in place( the main reason I use it). The lower thigh pads can easily be adjusted for a loose to tighter fit. I have no issues with over heating. I use a size large Bauer shell over the girdle. The Total One offers excellent mobility( better than my Vapor X:40 pants) but IMO not as much protection. The is much more lower back protection using pants. I play Summer Beer league, FD league and 3 on 3, all non contact. The Bauer girdle is perfect for that. Its holding up great and is very easy to air out and dry. The Vapor X:60 Girdle looked to be more protective but a little bit more weight. I hope this helps you.

iirc the totalone girdle is the one95 with a new look, you may be able to get a pair on closeout for less. I have a pair of the x60 girdle and it's fairly overkill for adult rec hockey. On reflection I wish I got the one95s as it is a little lighter and more mobile. My Girdle has been holding well, I use it for ice and inline twice a week, the workmanship is a little better than my x60 shoulder pad.

I was looking into them and my LHS carried the newest CCM girdle and the Bauer x60. I can see how that x60 can be an overkill. It's heavy and bulky and looks like you would wear it while going to war. lol.

The CCM girdle felt light and mobile but the hip and kidney region came up pretty high which bummed me out. I wish my LHS carried the Total One girdle and the Warrior Projekt as those seem to be more up my alley. I've noticed lots of Bauer One90/One95 girdles in NHL locker rooms after games during interviews. That might tell you something.

Thanks for all of the input. I really like the "idea" of the protection the X60 offers, but I'm leaning more towards the Projekt girdle partly because I'm not sure about the wrap design of the others and partly because ModSquad Hockey gave the Projekt line an award this year.

I was poking around online and ran into the Reebok 9K girdle shell combo from a few years ago. I'm intrigued but have heard that they can be a bit of an overkill as far as pads and straps, any reviews or opinions?

I own the Projekt girdle (there's a seperate thread on that specific girdle if you search) and I've been happy with it so far. It's light, mobile, low profile and offers good spine protection compared to most other girdles. I think it leaves less gaps in protection and offers more spine protection then the TotalOne/One90/One95 girdle while still being very mobile. The X60 looks to be more protective, but it also looks bulkier (I haven't used or tried on the X60).

The only issue I had with the Projekt girdle was the belt was too small/tight - I just replaced it with the belt from my S15 motion combo girdle for now and it's been fine (although I do wish that belt was as thick as the Warrior Belt). The Projekt is lighter and more mobile than the S15 combo and I don't feel any less protected.

From what I've seen looking at tons of well used girdles that come thru our shop for sanitizing, they all seem to have the same durability issues and wear fairly evenly among the brands. Best would be to try them all on and pick the one you feel is most comfortable and that offers you the mobility and protection you are looking for.

I finally pulled the trigger on a new girdle. I went with the Warrior Projekt girdle. Absolutely amazing. As far as I'm concerned it's one of the best pieces of equipment that I've ever owned. I've worn it a few times now. I was a little worried about the level of protection, but I blocked a slapshot from one of the better players on another team the other night and barely felt it. Comfort wise it is unbelievable. I can't say enough good things aboout it.

On a side note on the belt...WTF??? It is just as everyone else said it was, way too small. That will be the only negative thing I have to say about the girdle.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for replying to my post and helping me out.
