TotalOne "standard" blade not fitting Easton ST shaft

Recommended Posts

It's been a long while since I've last posted. I did various searches but dice.

I recently bought two standard blades for my Easton ST grip shaft (2009 model? Red, white and grey graphics): Bauer TotalOne and Warrior AK27 Double D. I was disappointed to find the TotalOne blade wouldn't even fit into the ST shaft, the blade tenon corners aren't rounded enough for the inside of the ST shaft while the AK27 fit perfectly. Seems "standard" isn't really standard...? Has anyone had issues with TotalOne other newer Bauer blades not fitting other brands of shafts? What about other blade makes not fitting the ST shaft? Also curious if the newer 2010 or 2011 ST shafts have problems fitting other make of blades. Really I'm just wondering who here isn't really "standard."

What end of the shaft are you putting the blade into. I think the ST is a tapered shaft isnt it....

It is a standard shaft and always has been.

Can't really help with the OP problem, so far Bauer blades of any kind have been the best fitting blades for *me*. For most other blades I need to use a layer of tape to make them fit.

The only way you can be sure that your blade and shaft will fit perfectly is to buy both from the same brand, as there are slight brand to brand variations. If the corners of the tenon are a touch too boxy to fit, just sand/file them down a bit. I often have to make small modifications to make 2-piece setups work, it's no big deal, and as long as you don't go crazy I've never had a problem durability wise. I believe Bauer tenons (and shaft openings) tend to be a touch bigger/boxier than most other brands.

I have a 2010 (black/orange) ST with a Total One blade and it's a perfect fit. It's one of the few stick/blade combos that I've never added tape, glue, etc.

Good to know. It sounds like the 2010 ST shafts aren't as rounded inside as the 2009 model. Have you ever tried your 2010 ST with another blade other than the TO? Just curious if other blades still fit just as well for you, which would mean the 2009s are too rounded.

I've only had TO blades in the new-model ST (note: the TO blades don't seem that durable, but they have great performance). I've never used a pre-10 ST either so I'm not sure about the rounded corners.

I figured since the TO blade was so stiff it should be fairly durable, but then again I have zero mileage on the blade that I can't use currently. I'm considering the '10 ST shaft as a backup now that I know the TO fits it (and likely more blades than my pre 10 ST does). Thanks for your help (and to the other posters as well).

I'll say it again, just file down the parts that are ruining the fit. Get a flat/rectangular file from the hardware store, with a "bastard" cut (deeper teeth), should be around $5-10, and just do some combination of filing down the outside corners of the tenon and inside corners of the shaft. It probably won't take much, I've done this with blade/shafts before with zero durability problems (just keep the filing as minor as possible).

This seems to be the case that bauer are slightly bigger than easton. My st blade is loose in my one95 shaft without a lot of glue.

For what it's worth, we've never had a problem with a TO blade going into any standard shaft. ST, S19, TO, 6K, etc. My guess is they changed the dimensions from the 09 ST to the 10 ST.

Unfortunately the TotalOne's tenon is hollow and the walls are too thin to file down, I could try it but I don't want to risk it on a $75 blade. The newer ST shafts fit more blades than the older ST, which as other posters have pointed out has more rounded dimensions. So having the newer ST makes more long-term sense for me since I replace blades much more often than shafts, this way I don't have to worry as much about Brand X blades not going to fit like on my old ST.

I tried fitting the same TO blade into a 2010 Warrior AK27 grip shaft (standard, not the tapered deluxe) but it wouldn't go in all the way and it was pretty tight before it got stuck. Have you ever seen this particular combination work smoothly?

from my experience Bauer blades have always been the thickest and Warrior among the thinnest, I wouldn't prefer you to file down the blades and consider swapping blades out for just get a Total One shaft
