Difference in skate quality over the years

Recommended Posts

Hi guys I hope you can help me with this question. Are a pair of 600 dollar skates from let's say 2009, lesser quality then 600 dollar skates from 2011? I know technology changes over the years, so are 600 dollar skates then equal to 300 dollar skates now?

300? No. 400? Closer. If you go back 2 years, you're not going to notice the difference. Would need to go back more. Going back to 2009, the vapor X: Series was released. The x60s at 600 MAP, are the same skate (minus some additional ankle padding) as the X7.0, at the same price.

If you go Supreme, the one95 (MAP at 650) is the same skate as the one100, except a thicker tongue, however it has dropped to 600 MAP.

With Easton, the S17 (MAP at 550?) is quite similar to the EQ50 (MAP at 530). The eq50 is built heavier and built more durable (IMO).

CCM the U+ Pro reloaded came out, @ 550. The 12 is a similar skate to that, different materials and built different but you would be hard pressed to notice the differences when skating.

Reebok the 9k feels completely different from the new series (liner, stiffness) so its hard to give a similar skate in today's pick, but the 10K is a decent comparison IMO in terms of weight between the two.

Go back 5 years and the 500 skates then are quite similar to the 350-400 skates today.

Ok thanks, I'm currently in x60s, and always keep checking out the mission fuel 120xp, it's says the map is 550, but I didn't want to get them if they are just comparable to like the one70s. Thanks for the help

I'd say that Bauer One95s sold in 2008 are comparable to the One100s and still around the same price new back then, however Vapor XXXs vs X:60s you may notice a difference in weight/feel.

Now go back to 2005-2006 and the difference is huge, go back to 1999 and almost imcomparable

that's why us older guys have stronger calves than the new kids though, but I'd wear the older skates in practise and the new ones in games and witness a huge difference in weight
