Senior Shoulder Pads

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I am looking for some opinions on shoulder pads. I play in a couple adult leagues over the winter that can get pretty chippy, it's no checking but I can pretty much count on some dirty play. In the pas couple years I have banged up my ribs and shoulder. So I am finally looking at some shoulder pads. I don't want to spend a ton of money and don't need the level of protection that the top line shoulder pads offer. I am really hoping to find some decent shoulder pads at a good price and I especially don't want them to restrict movement or be huge.

So if anyone has used the following please rate: Range Of motion 1-5 with 1 being very restrictive and 5 being almost unnoticeable. Also please rate the size / bluk of the shoulder pad 1 -5 with 1 being very bulky and 5 being almost unnoticeable thanks

Warrior Hustle Shoulder Pads 2010 model

Reebok 5K KFS Senior Shoulder Pads

THANKS

In the past 2 years I went from 25 year old coopers that were essentially shoulder caps with a little upper arm and chest padding to the 5K KFS to EQ50's

The 5K's have a restriction of about 3 and bulk of about 3.

I shattered my clavicle this past spring while wearing them requiring 10 screws and a plate to put the darn thing back together. Wife said better pads or no play. I went with the EQ50 as the design looked as if it would help prevent that particular injury. Doc said if it happens again on the same side they have to harvest bone from my forearm to fix it. That would mean time in a cast and a sling.

The EQ50 is gawd awful large but surprisingly I find the mobility better than the 5K. Took a shot off the sternum last night and didn't even feel it.

Cool thanks for the info.

I know you asked about the Hustler pads from Warrior, but I have the 2010 Method pads (size large). I'm 6ft, 220lbs, play forward and just started playing 1 year ago. I find them to fit fine, but if I were any bigger (fatter), I'd go with the x-large size. I have fallen many times, plowed into other players, smashed into the boards, and have not felt unprotected or that I need more.

My league is beer league but with "gentlemanly checking."

Bauer supreme classics. Usually $30-$40 in the US I think. Great for someone who needs something for those "just in case" situations.

Although I have no experience of the two mentioned pads, my advice is to get them properly fitted first, regardless of pad. Some people buy pads which thy think fit right (comfortable maybe) but are a size larger than it should be, resulting in gaps b/w the pad and body.

I have the 4k's, same thing as the 5k's from last year, from what I can tell. I'd say 5 for being mobile and 4 for being not bulky. Love the separate chest and body. First pads I've used that don't ride up or move around. Lots of protection but don't notice them on. They're not Sherwoods but have a lot more protection. Not too hot on the ice either.

Cool. I have looked at those two. I also have looked at the warrior projekt pads. I think I might go with those. they seem to be pretty slim and have good range of motion.

I do have some type of bauer shoulder pads that are old school and sold as a beer leaguer pad, but the offer no protection. Anything I end up getting will be overkill on paper for what I play, but in reality the bruised ribs I had a couple years ago and the messed up shoulder I had for about 6 months suggest otherwise.

If you fit into a given size in other brands' shoulder pads, you'll likely have to go a size lower in the Warriors as they run larger.

Very mobile, very low profile, and I believe the shoulder caps are even NHL standard.

I have both the Classic and One90, and I prefer the One90 for protection but I feel less like a robot with the Classic.

I have a pair of Bauer Classics and RBK 6K Fit Lites.

I cut the caps off the Classics and it's basically like a padded shirt, just in case, which I use for the no hit league which is really a no hit league.

They are a 5/5 in both categories.

I bought a pair of older RBK 6K fit Lites on Ebay last winter that are pretty sweet and very adjustable. The caps sit nice and low but there's tons of protection. I use these in the league that's supposed to be no hit, but is pretty much everything but open ice hitting.

I would rate them a 5 and 4 in the two classes. It's not so much the mobility as it is the weight of them. You just know you have them on.

Bauer Classics for me as well. Never had an issue with the shoulder pads. I got bursitis after getting hooked down using the Bauer Classic elbow pads, but the shoulder pads have been perfect. Extremely comfortable and protective.
