Montreal Canadiens 2011-2012 Thread

Recommended Posts

Let's not start this debate. The best person for the job should get the position regardless if he only speaks spanish, same with the head coach. I saw an interview 2 weeks ago with Randy Cunneyworth and Pierre Houde. Questions were asked in english, Randy gave his response and Pierre Houde would translate to french. Whats the big deal if he can't speak french when someone can translate?

I was being facetious. I agree that it's irrelevant what languages he speaks as long as he can communicate with the players.

Hard to judge context by text

It was inevitable that's for sure. A bit surprised it happened before the end of the season but it gives them an extra couple of weeks to find a new GM before the draft. One of the things that kind of flew under the radar is that Bog Gainey has also be shown the door which also had to be done in order to start with a clean slate so to speak. There are many speculations out there about a bunch of candidates ranging from Patrick Roy to Pierre McGuire. It will be interesting to see who is hired and what change in philosophy will take place if any.

Just speak "Hockey" because in many cases, finding a guy who speaks English, French (both Quebecois and Parisian), Russian, Czech, Swedish & Finnish is going to be hard!!

Seriously though...for all the talk of how Julien Brisbois is a front runner....I think since they are distancing themselves from everything associated with PG....including coaches and Gainey (hamster: As the story goes He wasn't 'fired'...he stepped down after talking to Geoff Molson, saying he was part of the PG culture and needed to get out of the way for changes to happen), I think the fact that he was part of their group might work against him.

And personally, I'd like them to go outside the organization. Find someone with no previous connection to Montreal (the team). Someone with ties to Montreal (the City) would be good....but let's not try to re-create something...the team has TONS of history. I hope they try to make something new.

Having said that...I hope Trevor Timmins stays on. I think his Draft record is phenomenal. Not every player has worked out in Montreal, but he has drafted a ton or great talent that is now playing key roles all over the NHL...the fact that some got traded (McDonough) before they ever got to Montreal isn't his fault. Halak in the 9th round. Sergei Kostitsyn was a late round pick. Moving up because they liked Latendresse. The only reason Lats didn't work in Montreal is because he was rushed to the Big Club because he was French. 1-2 years in the AHL would have made all the difference for him. Timmins is solid. And if they let him go...he finds a new job quicker than Boudreau did.

I think Patrick Roy is WAY to headstrong and too big a personality to have Montreal be his first NHL Front office job.He may get there eventually, but start somewhere else where you can misspeak and make mistakes (b/c you know he will) without 15 cameras in your face.

Maybe the Pierre McGuire talk has merit. It would get him off TV at least (LOL)...so I know a bunch of you are pulling for that.

Looks like Price is going to be shut down for the remaining 3 games with headaches. Don't remember him taking a shot in the head or getting run. Hopefully there isn't anything else going on health wise. Just heard of a soccer player (can't remember the name) who developed headaches/fever after a game....it didn't subside after a couple days...he went to the Dr. Ended up being diagnosed with Leukemia.

That would be fantastic.

According to RDS, the Price injury happened late last week in practice. They didn't say weather it waws a collision or shot in the head though.

Desharnais? He's 5'7" 170lbs!!!!! LOL Price is like 6'3" 210+lbs.

There was video of them on the West Coast trip goofing around doing tip drills in front. Maybe Price stopped one too many and Davey decided to run him...LOL Must've been blindside. Rule 48 stuff. How esle does Price get an injury???

I have to say dispite the losing season (it happens in sports) the Habs have by far the best hockey atmosphere in the arena. Its a great combo you have the game invented by the Canadians not to far away from where it was invented. Its an original 6 club so they have been around hockey for a long long time. What can be better then that? I have been to quite a few arenas but the Bell Centre and MSG are one of my favorite arena to go to dispite me being a Devils fan.

At least the cole signing worked out this year and wasn't a bust. New career high in goals, plus the intangibles of leadership and mentorship he provided #67. Can't wait to see who the next GM and/or coach will be.

Taking a shot off the bean.

No...it was confirmed as a collision. Desharnais got tripped up in a drill with a D-man and landed on Carey. Saw interviews after practice today.

And that dates back to March 20th as reported by RDS and SRC (French CBC) which makes things all that much more strange as he has played what, three or four games since? Can a concussion be "dormant" for 2 or 3 weeks and than just creep up that way?

Cole was certainly a good signing by Gauthier. He's at least played to expectations and then some. I'm curious to see if he would have gotten to 40 goals had Jacques Martin played him on the PP earlier in the year.

Perhaps a very mild concussion where the symptoms weren't severe? Further exertion could exacerbate the symptoms over time, I suppose.

That's what it looks like.

This has been a cursed year. All along, at least we could say, "They've still got Price for next season..."

Hey look....another feisty 3rd/4th liner in Montreal who is barely bigger than me (5'10" 181lbs). How many guys this size does one organization need? Nice hit though:

Pacs and Cole are bigger bodies. Bourque may remember how to play next year. Hopefully it is turning around. Hoping they draft some size this year.

The new GM will have his work cut out for him when he gets in. He'll have to get ready for the draft and a few players to sign before July 1st. He'll also have to decide on what to do with Gomez. Since he was skating last week, chances here his concussion is a thing of the past and can be bought back. I still think that they have a slight chance to trade him this summer to a team that desperately needs to reach the Cap floor while keeping the actual payroll lower than the floor.

Also, anyone see some of the interviews yesterday? They asked Markov to comment on Subban's season and he offered a "no comment, next question". There were other players who declined to comment on Subban too. That can't be good...

What are they supposed to say, really?

Some generic, politically correct crap like, ''PK is a young, exciting player he'll get better with time blah blah dispointing season for all of us, not just PK blah blah''

But then again... It's PK and everybody seems to hate him except Price (bromance) and most fans

So the 3rd overall pick? Who should they be picking? I've never seen any of these top 3 kids play but have heard great things about grigorenko, galchenyuk and murray.

I don't know much about the Draftees this year....but Grigorenko is a big body centre...and if they can't get a French kid that high....at least he has played in the QMJHL....that may appease some of the fans.

Dumba would be interesting, Not sure they'd go that far of the script at 3. Although...Price was a surprise pick at 5.. The thought of him and Jared Tinordi together is kinda nice.

Whatever's left... correct me if I'm wrong but this year's draft class doesn't seem all that great. No ''big'' names like Tavares or Stamkos, no actual 90+ points superstars. Let's hope I'm wrong ahah.

Well they are picking 3rd overall, "whatevers left" doesn't really apply to them. From watching WHL, u18's and reading reports, dumba reminds me of PK.:Offensive minded, can hit, rambunctious. People in hockey keep saying galchenyuk is going to be a star and MTL should draft him.

Habs fans need to stop thinking provincial and start thinking winning.
