Advice on mid-level shoulder pads

Recommended Posts

Hey all. I'm going to be using some cash I got for Christmas to upgrade my gear. One of the things I'm looking to get are some mid-level shoulders. I am currently using some low end Easton's (S3) that I got a few years ago. I am a bigger guy with broad shoulders, so a slimmer fitting pad will not work for me. OTOH, because I have broad shoulders, I would prefer a lower profile pad. I play in a non-check beer league, so, even though it can get chippy, I don't need much protection for checking. What I do need is maximum protection from getting hit with the puck in the chest/stomach. Any suggestions?

Very happy with my CCM Fit 05s. They are light, seem to pad against checks into the boards and my falls onto the ice. I have not taken a puck to the chest yet so I don't know how well they will pad there, but is you are in a no check league or a typical beer league and want low profile, they seem to work. And they arent' that much money. $35 to $40, I think, with tax.

The easton S13's are really solid for their price, bout $60 now that the price has gone down. Solid dual density foams everywhere, and a good sized chunk of plastic for the sternum guard. The shoulder profile is middle of the road in my opinion, not too big or too small either. Real comfy pads.

I just bought CCM Fit09s for the same purpose. I can let you know how they fit if you'd like, once I get them. Fit05 appears to be a similar fit, so whatever fits your budget.
