Going from CCM's to Grafs?

Recommended Posts

So my last two pairs of skates have been CCM Vector 10.0's and prior to that 1152 Tacks in a C/AA width. Much to my dismay, no one makes a C width skate anymore unless I wnat to have a pair of Vapor APX's custom made which would cost me close to $1,000. I've decided to try some Graf Ultra G5's in a narrow, which I had fitted at the LHS, and fits my foot pretty well. Have any of you had any experiences going from CCM's to Graf Ultras? How do they compare in ft and stiffness (support)?? I liked the fit and stiffness of my CCM's, but i'm pretty much out of luck due to having a very narrow foot.

Top end skates from Bauer and CCM are normaly available in C width, Not sure if that's still the practice. Have you asked your LHS about ordering /availability? Most shops tend to not stock narrow widths.

It's an apples and oranges comparision; but I can tell you that coming from top-end Bauer's that Graf's are plenty stiff. To give you a bit more context I was comfortable with the stiffness of my Vapor XXXX's, my Flexlite 4.0's weren't stiff enough for me, but now my 709's are nice and stiff. On that basis, my new Graf's are about as stiff as my previous Vapor XXXX's which were known to be a stiff skate.

On a general note, if you're a fan of traditional skates then you'll love Graf's. I can't see myself changing brands in the future now I've found my ideal fit.

i went from vector 10.0's to graf 703's - i have skinny feet too. before making the purchase, i was a little nervous about the low cut of the grafs. they are plenty stiff enough for me and i love them. i only weigh 165 lbs but i have long and powerful strides - the leather grafs are fine for me. the only problem i have is that the toe caps are so shallow that i have a permanent sore on one of my toes on each foot (from where the tongue attaches to the toecap). i didn't have this problem with vectors or any other skate.

Thanks for the replies guys. Regarding the toe caps, the ultras are supposed to have a larger toe cap compared to the supras so hopefully I won't have that issue. I'm around 165 as well and am really looking fwd to trying these out. I haven't baked them yet but tgey feel pretty stiff just trying them on. The ankle pads hurt a little, hopefully they soften up some when baked
