New Bauer Supreme One80's HURT

Recommended Posts

I would, but I can't even walk in them let alone skate to break them in. They feel ok when I sit, but when I get up to stand that's when the pain starts. I don't know if it's the tongue because my supreme 4000's have the felt tongue also.

That tongue is probably already broken down, or more feathered out. I've had felt tongues in all of my skates (aside from Easton EQ50 - which was a bit different), and never had the problems that I had with the one80's.

I also started noticing the pain as soon as I stood up and started to knee bend.

Another thing I remember doing was needing a punch on both sides of the skate, directly below the 3-4 eyelet area. There's a part of the skate right there where the padding gets quite firm, without give, and almost feels more like synthetic directly over plastic. The punching was done at the same time as the tongue shaving.

I got the One75's last year and i had this same pain i agree the tongue is thick and not much space if left for it once baked tight.

The pain gradually went away as breaking in... Since my fit was really good (heel locked i ) i would loosen the top a bit to releave the stress. I did have to skate through the pain but I didnt get blisters..

Guys, Just an update on my skates...I ended up selling them on ebay. I took a $40 loss on the skates, i guess that's not too bad considering that they were used, sharpened and baked. I liked them but the pain was too much and my LHS was supposed to contact the Bauer rep to help out and I never heard back from the shop.

I was looking for a new pair of skates and started reading about Graf skates and how the different models fit different foot types, so I decided to look into them. I spent a whole day on the Graf website looking for authorized resellers. I live in Ohio and we didn't have one locally so I looked in Pennsylvania and Michigan. I must have called 10 resellers before I found a family owned LHS in Howell, Michigan. I spoke to the owner and his level of knowledge regarding Graf skates was awesome. When I bought my Bauers, the folks there didn't take the time to look at my feet and notice the different issues I had going on. They asked me what size and didn't measure me, they didn't have me walk around in the skates to see if they fit properly, maybe it was partly my fault, but I didn't know what I should be looking for as far as fit. I thought pain was normal in new skates and had it in every pair of skates I owned. I decided to take a 4 hour drive to these guys in Michigan and I am SO glad I did. I never had someone examine my feet and ankles as thoroughly as these guys did. He brought out several pairs of Graf skates for me to try on based on my foot type. I found a pair of Graf Supra 735's that were extremely comfortable right out of the box, but after baking, OMG did they feel unbelievable. I skated in them for the first time last night and I can honestly say I experienced NO pain!!! It took about 5 minutes to get used to the pitch and the Flat Bottom V sharpening, but after that they were incredible.

Yeah a 4 hour drive may have been long for a pair of skates, but it was the best dicision I could have ever made regarding skates. I love these skates, the fit is awesome and they feel great on the ice !!!!!

You made out great on the sale of your old skates, and even better finding an excellent shop, even though it was a long drive.

Glad you found something that fits & performs well, not surprised at all you ended up with Grafs. Been wearing them for years and just got my new G75's last week. Have been on the ice three times with them so far and despite the stiffness, not one ounce of pain. Not sure why so many people think new skates should hurt, Ive never had a pair of skates hurt my feet.
