Anyone skated in 705's and G5's?

Recommended Posts

I just got a pair of Ultra G5's in an 8 narrow, and when I put them on even loosely, the pain on my outside ankle is pretty bad. I just tried on a pair of 705's at the LHS (which is supposed to fit exactly the same as the G5) and they feel great...no pain whatsoever. I'm serioiusly considering taking the G5's back and getting the 705's. I can't figure out why the big difference...anyone else skated in both and experienced anything similar???

Just the opposite in my case.

Although both pairs were 8.5 R's, the fit was identical. Both performed very similarly, too.

It seems like the 705's just seem to fit better...much more snug. Think i'm gonna end up swapping the G5's out for the 705's...gonnna go with the ones that feel better if they perform very similar.

I wanted to go with G35's since they're stiffer/lighter/higher-performance than the 735's. But after putting my foot in several pair of G35's that all felt like bear-traps, I'd have gone with the 735's. Every foot is different, go with what feels best for you.

It might have something to do with the liner that Graf uses on the G series. I have been wearing 707's for 10 years now and wanted to replace them with the G7, but they were nowhere near as comfortable as the 707. I personally prefer the Clarino liner in the Supra series skates and yes, I found them a bit wider fitting as well (8.5W in both). Too bad the older 7xx series skates are so heavy, they're by far the most comfortable skate out there.

I went from 703's to G3's without any issue, but I would say go with what feels best to you, everyone's different. A great fit is always the most important thing when it comes to skates. The 705 is still a very well performing skate.

Grafs as you might know are very foot specific. If you want to move to the 7 series I would try on as many as you can in this line. I chose the 735's because of the narrower heel. Needless to say I'm quite satisfied with my choice

I've tried on 703 and g3 and found the fit to be the same. I've also tried 735 and g35 and found the fit the same.

When trying on the 7 series, I felt no pain due to the softer leather. When trying on the g series, they were uncomfortable due to the rigid construction. However, I think the g series wouldn't have bothered me after a bake and break in.
