New Skates - Holder Size

Recommended Posts

Ive been wearing size 9W Graf 707's for years but just made the switch to the new G75 in size 8.5R. Been using Tuuk Custom+ holders forever and dont plan on switching. I have a few new sets left of 280mm that always fit well on the size 9 skates. Would I have a problem using 280mm holders on a size 8.5R skate? All of the charts I see online say an 8.5R take a 272mm holder, but I have a few sets and am used to the length of the 280 (plus I would like to keep my current steel/profile and just swap it in).

Any input appreciated.

That won't be a problem at all.

I've got 288 LS2's on my 8 3/4 CCM CL's and have had no problems at all.

If you search, you should be able to find my topic and all the great help I got.

Mount holders as close to even as possible. If that means 2MM of holder poking out under the toe and heel, that is perfect. Mount and crossgrind the excess holder from the toe and heel, grind it flush. A hand-file with the toe/heel of the skate covered in a combo of masking and duct tape will keep you from scratching the boot. And you're set.
