Skates for short very wide feet

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. I know you guys get these kinds of a questions alot, but i am super frustrated with my search for my first pair of skates since i was a kid.

I've been to every skate shop around and I can't seem to find any that carry my size. I was told that my skate size was a 6.5 EE. At this point ill be forced to buy online. Through my researched I've learned that reebok my be the best bet for people with wide feet, but they are all clearenced on hockeymonkey so I cant return them if I order. Anyone know anything else that will be very wide? I have a very wide fore-fort as well, so the skates need to have a wide toe box. I know that people reccomnd to try them on in person, but my freakish wide short feat are preventing that

CCM is owned by Reebok. I found the out of the box fit of the CCM U+ CL to be similar to the 11K. Very wide toe box on the CCM. FWIW, the CCM is also highly heat moldable. Should be able to conform to you as long as you get the intial size right. I'd also suggest you look at Graf as they have several different fits, but finding any shop that carries more than one or two models in most areas is saddly laughable.

Easton also has incredibly wide skates. They are the only ones that come close to work for my duck feet.

The Stealth and Synergy have very similar fit. The EQ series is a little less wide.

thanks for the responses! Anyone have any feedback on the baur flexlights?

I have a pair of the 4.0s in a D. Since I have a medium to wide foot, an E in them should fit you pretty well. I would recommend IceWarehouse as a place to order the skates since you can try them out, and send them back with free shipping if you needed, but it looks like they are cleaning out their Flexlite Inventory with Bauer's new line on its way.

Since when? I tried on a few pairs of Eastons when I bought my CCMs 2 years ago and the Eastons were a lot narrower.

Pretty much what I was thinking. I've never tried anything in the EQ line, but the Stealths were anything but wide when I last shopped.

The Stealths are perhaps some of the widest boots on the market, especially the S15. The Synergys...not as much.

I'll throw Bauer Flexlites into the mix. They are really wide. If I didn't have such a deep foot I'd be wearing those.

Thanks for the backup.

Stealths are very wide. SE16 and S17s are similar in fit.

I found the EQs were wider than the Stealths. I have hobbit feet according to my buddies and found that Bauer didn't really fit well. Graf, which I wound up getting, were the best fit but kinda pricy. The LHS I went to didn't have Flexlites; just vapors and supremes. CCMs, I found, are kinda narrow in the mid-foot (don't know the right term). And I never tried on Reebok. I am curious to see if the Flexlites are cleared out as I might pick up a cheapy pair as a backup.

No problem dude! You're right about the fit though, and another difference b/w Syn and Stealth that I remember (other than width) is that the Synergys are a lower cut boot than Stealth. Can anyone confirm this and is that the same with the EQ5-1/EQ50-10 lines?

The EQ 5 is the narrowest boot at the fore foot (just behind the toes) I've tried. I picked up a pair of U Pro Reloaded for $26.00 in nearly perfect shape. These were much wider and deeper. Vapors are wider at least for my feet. My MLX's are also far wider. I got the EQ's punched out. They fit much better now. I tried on EQ 30's and 40's in normal and wide. I was between the two. Would have picked up the 40's but they didn't have the correct length. Decided to give the EQ 5's a try during the sale at christmas from HM.

Going to keep the MLX as my primary skate though putting LS 2s on them. EQ 5 will be my backup. Selling the CCMs. I haven't liked everything about a pair of skates since supremes from 1979.

Around what time frame were these "wide" Eastons found? I know they changed their fit characteristics within the last couple years. (Used to be you didn't go down 1.5 sizes with Easton the way you always have with Bauer, for example.)

All I know is that no Easton I've ever tried on was wider than a CCM at the forefoot or toe box. Also, IceWarehouse.com seems to be pretty reliable in their reviews and sizing tips and they list Easton skates (Stealth & Synergy) overall as a medium-fitting boot when it comes to width and volume whereas CCM they list overall as a wide fit with a medium-high volume.

Oh well.

i have to agree with goalieman and aireaye...at least on the s17 and s12. they are one of the widest boots i've tried on in the forefoot aside from bauer flexlites. i've also tried on last generation's U+ pro, U+ 09 and current generation U+12 and U+ CL. none of those came even close in forefoot width as the eastons for me.

now if you're talking about heel width and overall depth of the skate, that's a whole different ballgame altogether.

Have you looked into Graf's? They have several models available for different foot types.

The only thing with Grafs is that finding a store that stocks the entire line-up, AND has a knowledgeable fitter is rare to come by, especially in less than hockey hotbeds.

Speaking of depth, which skate provides the most volume? I understand that the Supremes do, but wanted get the general consensus on the various offerings.

I've found my CCM U+12's (size 7E) give me a little more depth and width than my Supreme One80's (7D). I have short, wide, deep feet (heel to top of foot.) Not sure what parts of that, if any, is attributable to the E width on the CCM's.

I don't have much more experience with other skates. I've tried on Easton EQ40's, Bauer Flexlite 4.0's, Reeboks, Vapors (all in the correct size for length) and with all of those the top of my foot bulged out horrendously.

Hey MSH, been lurking for some time now, reading alot of threads and reviews about skates, but couldn't get all the info I needed from that,

so thought I would post in a old thread, instead of making a new one, sorry to the OP.

I am having som problems with the fit of my skates :S

Vapor x3.0 EE 5.5, could properly fit a 5, but that was just too narrow.

Going to get them baked in proper oven and have them punched, because they press and

rub on the outside of my foot, giving me som nice aching bunions.

3590dhg.gif

They are still a little small in the toebox/front.

Arch support is not that good, feels like im getting some stress overload in the foot.

The heel fits ok, but could have a tat more lock.

Biggest issue, I am having problems tightning the top of the skate, sides fold in and

it is still a bit loose, cause there isn't alot of volume above my ankles on my shin,

still get some lace bit though and feels like my foot is sliping a bit in the boot.

I have; pronounced heel, narrow/medium heel width, normal to high arche, shallow instep depth,

flat wide forefoot, skinny ankle/calf. I'm a small guy 5´7”, 137 lbs.

So figuring, finding a skate is quite a hassel since a lot have medium to high volume,

or does that even matter?

Don't have a LHS with good selection of different skates, size, width.

The shops in my country(Denmark) either carry a, b or c brand, often one width and only some models.

But what skate would you suggest?

Point me in a direction, and I'll go try some at a store, even travel to do so in the offseason.

Regards,

The late Dane.

This comparison of the Supremes to CCM U+ is very helpful. However, I can't imagine how you found the Flexlites to be shallower than the U+ line?!

I would REALLY recommend that you consider going custom. I have a short foot with an EEE forefoot with an A heel and require a pretty deep boot. The KOR Shift 1s & 2s were the first skates I had since I was about 12 that didn't cause my feet pretty severe pain. The carbon fiber bakeable bases really molded to your feet very well. When my KORs began to break down, I had JR fit me for a pair of customs. Fortunately he'd moved back to Florida and I had a PDvsFD tourney in his neck of the woods. They were not cheap, but trying to find a pair of skates to fit my Fred Flintstone feet online proved to be as easy as catching unicorns. The price was well worth every penny to have a pair of skates that truly fit my feet. There is just too much variation in lengths and widths between manufacturers to be able to buy skates confidently online for atypical feet. My skate collection of 2 pairs of Grafs (width almost bearable but too shallow), 2 pairs of CCMs (including a pair of Tacks with the non-memory foam cut out), 1 pair of Mission EEs, 2 pairs of KORs (which actually fit rather comfortably) and my Custom TotalOnes are pretty much proof of that. I would never buy another pair of non-customs again, unless I were to find a pair of Shift 1 or 2s on Ebay at a very reasonable price. Other than that there is simply NO off the shelf skate that could be made to fit my feet.
