elpresidente99 1 Report post Posted February 10, 2012 My story.I always was in Bauer Skates since i can remember. Last year i decided to try all skates for the best fit. And for me the best fit was the RBK 11k.I bought it and skated about 3 month, 3 times a week. And i always felt off balance never skated like a could, fell on ice on hard stops and so on.I think it was because of the other pitch from Bauer to RBK skates. I didn't find a LHS which could profile it near my place. THe two LHS near my place do not have any profiling system. So i decided to get Bauer and sell my RBK. Now i have the APX it was like day and night but i always had hurt spots in the APX but my skate skill was here again. But no Bauer skate fit me really really well maybe because they pretty stiff and i have a overpronations.Ok i go with the apx and put some gel pads on my spots. Last week a got a pair of used RBK 11k from a friend of mine who is a pro and they had the LS2 holder on it.I took them to sell them and make a little money. But i thought i can't sell a skate that i never tried on ice. I put them on and wooow that' is the fell i have searched for.So my question why i can skate with this skate and why i had bad experience with my own RBK, is it all about the TUUK holder.Could that be true?? skyscrape 5 Report post Posted February 10, 2012 Possibly. Or the skate may be stiffer than the retail 11k...who knows. But when I skated in retail 11k's I could feel the steel flex. It may have been the holder as well. All I know is that when I skated in my APX my ability went through the roof. I need the stiffness offered by the skate. The sad thing is, the 11k d/aa fit better but the boot was way too soft I did not like the holders on the 11k at all.
PeteyPOP 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2012 I have thought about switching to LS2's also, but I'm worried about compramising my CCM skate boots by having to drill extra holes in them.I know most pro-stock skates come with out the holes and are drilled for the tuuks, no extra holes from the exsisiting E-Pro's.Is this something to worry about? Deerok 3 Report post Posted February 10, 2012 I went through a similar situation as well (I've worn Bauer ever since I can remember except the Grafs I had before my current pair of CCM's). I'm in U+ CL now and had the Tuuk LS2 holders installed. The boot was ordered with holders unattached. I did this because I didn't want to go through the adjustment period I dealt with on the Cobra holders I had on my Graf's.I spent a lot of time researching the board and (combined with my experience with other holders) came to the conclusion that I'd rather not deal with that adjustment. I should point out that by "adjustment" I don't mean that I totally felt off on the Cobra holders, it was more of the little things (digging in the corners, backwards transitions, quick starts, etc.) that just seemed off and never really improved. I tried everything to get them to where my skates with Tuuks felt, but I was never able to get there (about 70%). Mind you i tried, a matching radius and profile, and a shim in the front to make the pitch more neutral.Given how much money I sunk into those skates to get them as close to my old set up, I ended up just sucking it up and going with the skate that fit best (in this case my first CCM's) and saved myself a lot of grief and a little money (if you add up what I spent on the blade/holder set up).I'm very happy with my decision, and my game is back to where it used to be (if not better).FYI-The Graf's I sold later to help pay for the new skates (although I was tempted to keep them for roller). chippa13 1844 Report post Posted February 10, 2012 Simply put, since the OP was so used to skating on the Tuuk holders then anything else would feel foreign. I'm one of the old school guys who keeps putting Custom + on all of my skates. A trend that will likely be coming to an end as those holders have been discontinued. Hoopster 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2012 I always had Tuuk+ fitted on my skates when I was younger (always CCM Tacks), just loved the way they felt on the ice. I recently started playing again after a good few years out and got a pair of Reebok 6k's and just stuck with the standard holder, whilst it felt okay I haven't felt as comfortable on the ice although as I'm being quite a bit heavier now that's maybe not a surprise ha! I recently picked up a pair of 652 Vacutacks on ebay for about £20, they're mint and I've always wanted a pair, they arrived with the old prolites on them so I've just picked them up having had Tuuk's put on them, I'll be using them tomorrow and I can't wait. I guess in my experience having a pair of blades you're comfortable is just as important as having skates that you feel comfortable with as they really can change the feel of the boot. Only problem is to make sure your LHS does a good job drilling a bolt access hole in the heel.
skates89 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2012 wow I have been following posts on this board for awhile now. Took me along time to find on what exactly my issue was. I skated in Graf 705 for lord knows how long. I tried all the new stuff and the boots where just to stiff for me. Then I found happy medium but I never had the same control I had with the grafs. I always felt off and could not figure out why. So I sucked it up also and got me a new set of 705s and the last thing I need to set me up right is the custom plus runner. I like the LS2 but that little bit of height in the heel is what throws me off. Im just not used to it and when i want to spin off my heel my center of gravity is just a tad higher than I am used to in the custom plus runners. I can do way more with that skate set up than any other skate. Much better foot control ankle control puck control timing turning etc. I guess its not unreasonable as that is what I skated with all my life custom plus.I found this out by accident actually. i was cleaning out my shed and had some old custom plus runners and out of curiosity I lined it up to the new ls2s and when I noticed the height difference, I knew right then this is what is causing me to feel all unbalanced etc. I will say i found a great skate in the MLX. Very supportive and very comfortable and very moldable. I am going to take the ls2 off that skate and try them with the custom pluses. Id say I may like them. If I do like them more than the grafs Ill stay with them but if I dont at least I have my grafs back. Eaither way I can tell you that I was no way near the player, I used to be when i had the old set up. I was running into players needing to shift off my hips, I felt awkward. I had more speed and would run the route around guys when I had the chance but the ability to stand still and tweak here and there and slip and slide the puck was gone and that has always been the best part of my gameWith that all I can say is stick with what works and it seems like yeah if your used to skating with a certain skate and runner for many years it stands to reason that all of your motor skills are developed with those dynamics. Changing any one of them can definitly affect performance and it can do it significantly. Hope this helps someone nto to have to spend all the money as i tried everything the above posters mentioned and never got it completely right. My Grafs are in the mail so thank the good god above this will be over shortly. Its been at least 2 years since I last skated in these and I cant wait. I did buy another set that i had pictured here but the instep was to big sadly and I had to sell them to a friendThanks to everyone on here who has been helpfull. This site is great and there are so many very well informed members. Hope the Lockout ends soon this is very depressing
