Help with custom skates

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Haven't skated since high school 6 years ago and owned a pair of Graf 705's at the time. The only option I have right now is between the Bauer x5.0 or some custom sized grafs. I wear a 15 or 16 shoe depending on the company, and I really don't want to spend $800 plus on customs, at least that's what I've been quoted. What is the quality of the bauers or do I have other options I'm not aware of? Thanks

Are you mainly concerned about the length, or are there other issues you're looking to address?

I know Flite Hockey makes a skate up to size 16. I can't really speak to their on-ice feel though.

The Bauer X5.0 is actually a pretty solid skate. I owned a pair in 13E (ended up being too long for me), but I was impressed with the quality of the boot. If you're not playing AAA or minor pro hockey, it's a mighty fine skate.

They still make 705s in bigger (13-15) sizes, why not go with those again?

Based on what you're saying a 705 in a 14R would be what you're looking for (assuming your shoe size is accurate).

$450 sure beats $800, plus they'd be the same fit and pitch that you used to have.

Thanks for the info guys....I was told by my LHS that graf only makes up to a 13, so I will contact a different LHS and deal through them. I wold love my 705s again, I'll have to figure out where to get them. I have seen the Flites, but haven't seen any reviews on them. I'm only going to be doing pick ups and stick n pucks so the bauers might do well too...I've never had any bauer skates so I'll try them out.
