Bauer Vapor vs 4roll Sizing

Recommended Posts

I bought a pair of Bauer vapor x:20 13" when I first started out, simply because of the price range. They ended up being to tight for my taste, as I struggled putting them on my hand easily during games. So I decided to buy the Bauer 4 roll pro's 14". Long story short they are too bulky for my taste.

I'm picky I know.

My question is, if I buy the Bauer vapor x:60 gloves, should I stick to 14" or do they fit differently than the x:20? I live in Texas, Houston area so I don't have the option of going to a pro shop and trying them on. As the pro shops here have a very narrow selection which normally include reebok gloves and low end warrior gloves.

If you like a 13in glove then that is what you should probably get across the Vapor line. I tried on Bauer Supreme Total Ones in a 13in and they were a little snug, but the Vapor's fit just right in a 13in. The Vapor line being a little more forgiving in fit than the Supreme Line. The Vapor X20 and X60 should be very similar in fit.

No good stores in Houston? I thought that was supposed to be an up and coming hockey market.

Anyway, I made exactly that jump. Started off with the Vapor X:20s for price, and then jumped to the X:60 Pros (and other brands). The fit is basically the same, as far as I could tell. That being said, none of the mid to high end gloves I've had are as soft and flexible as those original X:20s. The X60s will always feel a little stiffer, but that's because the protection is so much better. Quality too, as my seams split pretty quickly on the X:20.

If you're looking for higher end gloves and want something that isn't as roomy as a 4 roll and isn't super tight then the Vapor series should work. If the 13" Vapors were too tight then 14" may be just right. It's hard to know for sure without trying them on. Contoured gloves in other brands you could consider are the CCM CL, RBK 11K and Warrior Luxe. I believe the Easton S19 gloves also had a contoured fit, but I've read about durability issues with those - the new RS gloves may be better.

Do the 14 inch 4 rolls feel too long or simply too bulky? They're a roomier glove to begin with (especially in the back of the hand relative to the vapor), so the jump would seem pretty drastic coming from a 13 inch, tighter fitting glove.

In terms of length with your x20s, do your fingers poke through the part of the gusset that covers your fingertip, and is the bottom of the palm of your hand completely covered by the glove palm itself? If so, its likely that you need a 13 inch in the 4roll as well.

If the 13 inch x20 is too short and doesn't meet the fitting parameters above, I'm thinking you'd be ok in the 14 inch x60.

Edit: Althoma, sorry for the redundancy, was literally posting at the same time as you!

No worries. Your post brings up some great details. It is important to know if the X20s and 4 rolls were the right length before deciding on the proper size in another glove.

I wore the 4-Rolls before moving to the X:60 Pros. It took a little bit to get used to (my hands would sweat a lot) but after a few uses I couldn't tell many differences between the fits. I like a loose cuff and the X:60 Pro was definitely loose in the cuff...btw they were both 14"

personally right now i have bauer 4-roll pros that i picked up from a guy i know at DK's hockey shop for around $90. it wasnt much of a deal but i decided to grab them. i had used reekbok 8k custom gloves before but i felt the wrist cuff was too much and not as loose on my wrists as i would of liked it to be(plus the palms were gone after about a solid 8 or 9 months). before those gloves i had nike bauer vapor XXXX gloves that held up well. all were 13" gloves but the reeboks ran a bit snugger. the vapor xxxx's were smaller for 13" gloves, i felt like they werent too big and the 4 roll pro's were perfect. they were spacey on my wrists to get that flick feeling, when your snapping a shot and nothing holding it down. they are personally very light(might be because they are 13") but the vapors are ment to be more of a tapered fit specifically for flexibility, feel and protection. the supreme gloves are supposed to be for an anatomical fit for protection and performence all combined to be lightweight. but the 4roll is a combo of both. they are looser than the vapor line, yet lightweight, certainly provide enough padding like the supreme line, and are spacey like the vapors too.

The x:20s I had left the base of my palm at the end of the cuff and my fingertips at the end of the the glove. All in all I had to force them on.

The 4 rolls I have fit my hand fine as far as fitting into the glove, I'm just not a big fan of how bulky they feel on my hand. It's too much of a loose fit.

From what y'all are saying it's looking like the x:60 14" should be right down my alley. I prefer it looser in the cuff for stick handling but Id like it not so bulky. It looks like that is the x:60 or the vapor line in general.

And Houston is definitely not a hockey market at all, we have the Houston aeros and if you go to a game you can probably count everyone there. It makes me wonder how they pay the players. There are only 5 rinks in the area and 2 have decent pro shops. Decent being used very generously. So I greatly appreciate the input everyone.

For fit in the Bauer glove line, the Vapor's are your "middle" option, for the most part. 4-Roll's will usually feel a little wider and Supreme's are more snug (or "anatomical," as Bauer puts it). I wear X:60 Pro gloves and they are a little looser in the cuff, which I love. I can't stand the Supreme line because it feels like my hand is being strangled and the 4-Roll's feel like they're falling off. But everyone's hand is different, of course, and all players have different preferences. These are just my own preferences.
