Need New Protective For 2012

Recommended Posts

Looking To update all of my Easton S19 protective equipment within a few weeks for my summer league. I was hoping to get your inputs On this. I need to whole kit. I'll give you an idea on what I'm looking for. I have a horrible complex that makes me match my gear by color and brand generally. I also want to get back to a girdle or tight pant. Also I wanted the most breathable and anatomical fit possible. I like the new warrior projekt line but have no way of trying it on that I know of here in Denver. My lhs can't confirm or deny whether they will carry it this year or not ( garbage I know ).

I have no price limit so I want the best gear. Also no brand alliance.

Thanks ahead of time,

Kyle!

The protective this year looks to be very good across the board. Pretty much every manufacturer has put out great product and it's just a matter of figuring out what feels best to you. I know you said you can't try on everything, but that really is the way to go. Try and shed that need to match color and brand too, you might find that things from different brands feel better.

chadd nailed it. if you are looking to stay with one brand ccms new line is really hyped up.

but another point chadd made is trying different brands. you might be missing out on a better fit or preference by sticking with one brand. what i do is browse hockeymonkey as they usually have a good sample of reviews and look over each product im interested in. research is important. another tool is youtube. looking online you might miss something in a pic that a video will show you. icewarehouse usually has youtube reviews on top of the line product.

Chadd is absolutely right - try on as many brands as you can and find what feels the most comfortable for you in each category. It really shouldn't all have to match.

I've tried on most of the new protective and in my opinion the CCM U+ was the lightest out of the high end pads, but the new Projekt equipment was the most comfortable. The older Projekt elbows are even more comfortable than the new ones in my opinion, but the new ones are still mobile, comfortable and seem like they'd be a bit more protective (stiffer/harder padding). If you're thinking of going to a girdle then I definitely recommend trying on the Projekt girdle, but keep in mind that the belt is small - just try it on with the belt undone with the assumption that you may have to use another longer belt.

For shoulders, I still like my Farrells without the caps for minimal beer league protection, but they obviously aren't going to be as protective for the shoulders as the newer high end pads with the caps on them (although they may be more protective than some when it comes to the chest/back beyond the sternum and spine).
