strosedefence34 175 Report post Posted June 30, 2012 so i have been wearing some 14" easton shin pads for a little while now and they where alright in length I didn't really like the fact that I couldn't really tighten them as much as I wanted. So when the nexus line came out I jumped on the nexus 1000 and I wore them for the first time today (i tried them on a few times before committing to playing in them and they seemed alright). After skating in them I noticed the plastic in the shin pads don't really go past my tongue (they sit right on top of it). I can push the knee cap into place and they seem to go down a little further but not much. When I compared them to my old shins I noticed the padding underneath the plastic stretched a little further. I am afraid of getting 15" ones because they may be too big. I can provide pictures if people want. Little background I wear my shins tucked in I hate wearing them over the tongues. I am about 5'10'.
AIREAYE 248 Report post Posted June 30, 2012 Find something that is two finger widths above the inside ankle bone for length.
IPv6Freely 2096 Report post Posted June 30, 2012 I look around my locker room, and everyone has pads that end roughly where the top of the boot is. Except me, mine are a good inch below that.
strosedefence34 175 Report post Posted June 30, 2012 they are about 3 fingers. I feel like 15" would be too long. Maybe i need 14.5" shin pads.
Monty22 833 Report post Posted June 30, 2012 Go to your LHS, bring a skate. Try on a bunch of shin pads while wearing said skate until you find the fit you like.
strosedefence34 175 Report post Posted July 1, 2012 i have to get my skates sharpened this week anyway so I will probably do that. I just am an impulse buyer and really wanted the nexus shins. iI just feel like for the most part anyway you slice it a 14" shin pad and a 15" shin pad is going to be the same length wise, and based off of aireaye's suggestion I can fit 3 fingers in between my ankle bone and the bottom of the shin. I feel like a 15" would only allow me to fit 1 finger, and I would rather have my shins shorter then too long because i hate wearing them over the tongue. Wildcat85 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2012 Depends if you wear your shinguards over your tongue or inside them really. I'd try some different sizes with a skate on then decide what feels best.
