fastrxn 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2012 Hi everyone! So, I went to my local hockey shop today, and tested out the Bauer APX and NXG skates. I found that the APX fit my feet better, but there's one small issue. The ankle region seems to be looser on the APX than the NXG. The NXG's hugged my ankles well, and provided a tighter fit there. Before I shell out for this skate, I'm just wondering if the ankle regions are supposed to have a side-to-side movement? In the past, my skates weren't as stiff, so I was able to tie up the upper laces more than I was supposed to (hence, the made my ankle region very tight). The boot of the APX fit SO perfectly. I'm wondering how much movement my ankles are supposed to have on a perfect fitting skate.Thank you in advance!!! AIREAYE 248 Report post Posted June 30, 2012 By 'ankle regions', do you mean the heel, the ankl bones area, or the upper part of the boot?
fastrxn 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2012 By 'ankle regions', do you mean the heel, the ankl bones area, or the upper part of the boot?Well, I mean the upper part of the boot (top 3 laces region). I get a lot more wobble side to side in the APX than I'm used to. The base of my foot is locked in (from toe to heel).
AIREAYE 248 Report post Posted June 30, 2012 After baking, they should wrap around a bit better. I find that a lot of people have the same problem with Vapor skates.

Do you think this ankle movement is a problem? Or it's just the way this skate should fit? I wouldn't say I'm a weak skater, it's just I've never had loose-ankle-fitting skates. Chadd 916 Report post Posted July 1, 2012 A skate with less volume/depth in the ankle area would probably be a better option. I recall a number of people with low volume ankles having blister/rubbing issues with the tongue.

fastrxn 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2012 Since now you are asking about how $800 skates should fit, what model skates have you been wearing and for how long?I've been on the Flexlite 4.0's for the past 3-4 years. I've been quite happy with them, but taking some harder shots definitely stings a bit haha. Because they aren't too stiff, sometimes I tighten the top 3 laces too much, and they bend in a lot (maybe that's why I've grown accustomed to the tight ankle region?).EDIT: Just to add some detail. I wore some lower end supremes when i was a kid, and I've never really spent this much money on stiff skates before.
SnakeHockey 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2012 Flexlite's and APX's are completely difference in terms of width, the flexlites being much wider. You may want to consider Nexus if you're happy in your flexlites
nisselrm 22 Report post Posted July 3, 2012 High volume has always been an issue with vapors from the start. It's a method of shedding weight in the boot. I have had extra ankle padding in my custom vapors since the XX. I recently got a pair of one100s for coaching and found the upper fit my ankle much better than a stock vapor.
