Custom skates order online and other options

Recommended Posts

Hi MSH,

I'm in the process of finding better fit in skates like many of you are.

I have middle to small heel and ankle, high instep, middle forefoot.

I dont have access to Bauer retailer to order custom skates, online is the only option.

Please suggest how I can order custom Bauer or Graf online or suggest other proper skate for me.

I currently use mission ag 120 10.5d(snug fit ) ,

I'm 190cm and 95kg

It took few months to break in forefoot in terms of width.

Now the fit is good but I want stiffer boot for better ankle support and more foam inside as I have some bones pressure, in the middle of my foot not possible to punch with this boot.

Previous skates:

Bauer supreme 70 10D (sloppy fit, bad ankle support and too wide in forefoot, length was ok )

Reebok 9k 10e 2007 (was very wide in ankle and heel, forefoot was snug )

I also tried some other skates on:

Graf Ultra G7 10.5 D: too wide everywhere, no ankle support, lenght was good.

Vapors: A bit narrow in forefoot and too shallow(instep), to wide in ancle area, lenght good.

Roller Mission Commander 10D: A bit wide in heel, lenght good.

In most of the skates which I tried I had ankle support issue, Mission ag 120 were the best in terms of this but their upper quarter is to flexible.

Many thanks in advance!

You can order custom skates online from prostockhockeygear.com, but only CCM CL, Reebok 20k, and Easton RS, no Bauer or Graf. I don't think you can order custom online for Bauer, pretty sure you have to order through a dealer who does the fitting. Also, custom skates aren't returnable if you make a mistake on the size, so it's kind of a bad idea to order them online.

Thanks hockeymass,

The CCM CL, Reebok 20k, and Easton RS skates are not the best options for me because of my quite high arches and middle, a bit narrow feet profile.

May be anyone could suggest non custom boots which can fit me well ?

Any other custom options?

Are there no stores anywhere near you where you can get fitted? A high end pair of skates is a pretty big purchase, and it might be worth a bit of a drive.

They sell Bauer mostly and they aren't official dealers and doesn't do any custom fitting.

Those skates are an option for you if you are going custom, that's the whole idea of custom, they can make all the mods to fit your foot, depth, arch, etc.

Try everything, and then decide what does or does not work. A lot of people rule out skates for one reason or another, only to find they fit quite well.

Have you baked your skates? It might give you a bit more room in the forefoot, they are a bakeable boot. I would recommend trying to find a pair of closeout or barely used Mission XP 120s online, they are out there. They are the brother pair to the AG 120. They were both top line mission skates. The design and fit was supposed to be similar. The AG were cut lower and less stiff for agility, while the XP had a higher cut and increased stiffness for stability. If you are happy with your AGs except for the low cut and stiffness, a pair of XPs with a good bake or two may solve your problem at a tremendous savings over new customs.

Here's a silly question. If you go custom would the traditional retail-characteristics even matter (volume of the vapor vs supreme, for example)? After the SJ demo I'm really thinking about buying custom skates at Christmas and was curious if that will matter. Essentially, if I get custom fitted skates, in theory shouldn't they be able to work in any boot?

Arch and boot cut do matter, and that can't be changed.

You're much better off building on a skate that fits you decently rather than trying to cobble together a skate that doesn't.

You live so close to TSR. Just go to them. Brendan will surely fit you properly.
