Time for new skates or stick with same ones?

Recommended Posts

I've got a pair of Bauer vapor x4.0s. Whenever I wear them and take them off, the side of my feet hurt. I don't tie the skates really tight but when I do my feet hurt a lot. I've got a wide foot but I have a EE width on these skates. Should I stick with these or get a new pair and if so what skates do you recommend? Thanks!

Did you bake them? Try that if not. For the bake, I believe most shops will tell you to sit still in them and not walk around. This time, why not try, after putting them on your feet after they come out of the oven; standing in them for the first 60 seconds and completing the rest of the bake in you normal sitting position. The majority of the baking effects are felt within the first couple of minutes so if you could stretch the boot with the natural widening of your feet (collapsing arch among other things), it might work well in your favor.

Last resort would definitely be a boot stretch.

beware standing in a fresh baked boot, if you're a heavy person you risk buckling and ruining the back post on the holders

Yeah I have had them baked, I got these skates in September and not a heavy person haha.

Try on as many skates as you can find, you may decide that you like something else more. Pain is never a good thing and pain on the side could well be a width issue.

I've always had this problem with Bauer skates, I guess Reebok or CCM would be good to try.

you could also take a heat gun and do what I have done many times. heat up the area that hurts at a disatnc of 6 inches from the boot on low for 3 or 4 minutes moving the gun around all the time in the concentrated area of pain and then I insert and object into the boot that helps that area spread a litte. Ive used little half inch thick by 1-1/2 wide retangular piece of wood wedged in there slighty and it has worked wonders on most skates I have tried it with and if the arches where to high I have actually dremeled them down a tad. Im all for the heat gun and dremel when i paid a lot of money and I want some use out of them. It works. Best of luck with whatever you do I know skate pain is pain in the ass

You could always try the supreme or nexus lines, more geared towards wider feet.

I've had supremes but they don't fit my feet, my heel doesn't lock well with supremes. I haven't tried the nexus line yet.
