Elbow Pad Sizing

Recommended Posts

Why is it that the majority of the manufacturers only make elbow pads in S,M,L? What are you tall guys doing? Are you limited to only Reebok XL and other brands that make XL, or are the large sufficient. On ther sizing charts for Bauer, it lists the large for up to height 6'1". Have they really limited their market by not going any bigger, or are the large actually big enough for big guys?

Thanks

Drew

Elbow pad sizing has almost NOTHING to do with height of your body. It does a little, but its mainly how big your biceps and forearms are. For instance I sold elbow pads yesterday to someone my height at 6'2"... he bought smalls, because he has no muscle on his arms and Medium & Large were falling off of him. Warriors are really long & thick elbow pads if you're having trouble finding some.

Have to agree with that, I used to wear Large's in elbows pads purely due to my height and not being able to get to a LHS to try out many new pairs. I dropped down to a medium after trying on a teammates earlier on in the year and the fit is like night and day the large used to slip constantly even though the fastenings were tight, the mediums are a better fit without restricting my mobility/protection.

I tried on Bauer APXs & Easton RSs yesterday at a hockey shop & the mediums were extremely tight, I liked the larges better - I'm about 6' 2" & 200 lbs with decent arms (not scrawny, not ripped). I currently wear Jofa 8077s in Size 5 & I like the way they fit, but am considering something newer with a moisture-wicking liner & hopefully a bit smaller elbow cap.

All Warrior save for the new blue Projekts (and I assume Koncepts) size up, so if you're looking at something of an XL, this is an excellent suggestion.

I've been looking into different elbow pads. I'm currently in an adult small pair of Bauer Vapor X:40's. I have skinny, but long arms. The size small leaves a sizeable gap between elbow pad and glove. The forearms strap on the small is pretty tight and the bicep strap gets snug. In theory, would I be okay to move up into a medium to gain some length in the forearm protection? I'm consistently getting bruises and cuts from getting slashed right at the end of the forearm section. Would I gain anything by moving into a medium? Or is there another brand/model that fits similar to the Vapor but has a longer forearm section?

Not a fan of slash guards huh?

Have you tried on Warriors older elbows? They size up and I find tend to result in a longer length. However, the wrap-around forearm design keeps it relatively snug even if it doesn't fit like Vapors. See if you can try on a pair of Franchises, Hitmens, Bonafides or Bullys.

If you get extremely lucky and find a pair of Easton Synergy 800s, those could work too : http://www.hockeyworld.com/index/page/product/product_id/91

There's certain pro stock models that are longer, not sure what they're called, but extremely hard to find in SR S and you'll have to pay a lot.

Other than that, there aren't many retail options available that are true-to-size but longer that I know of.

Okay thanks. To be honest...I don't have anything against slash guards and may go that route. I just try to keep the amount of things I have to pack in my bag and keep track of to a minimum. Silly I know. I don't necessarily have to stay with the Vapor model, but have found they fit about best for me. I'll see if my LHS has the Warrior elbows in stock. They don't rotate through inventory very fast so they will usually have some of the older model gear longer than larger retail places. They might have some of the older ones still. Problem being the variety of models isn't very good. Appreciate the suggestions.

interesting topic... I have decent size arms but wear a SMALL in vapor 7.0s for my elbow pads, simply because I'd rather have them a bit too snug than fall down on me during gameplay...

I'm not so worried as to how snug the forearm or bicep will fit on a certain size. I can always change the length of the strap myself to adjust that fit. My issue is making sure my elbow is secured snugly in the pocket. For me, the Vapors do that really well. I just did not take into consideration the lack of protection from end of elbow pad to cuff of the glove. And in all reality I only need an extra 2" to cover the area I keep getting whacked. At first I didn't worry about it, but it's been happening so consistently that I'm getting bruises on top of bruises.

Have a rec league game today so I'm going to show early and check some of the Warrior pads out before my game.
