Backstrom p92 with 5 or 6 lie?

Recommended Posts

Was at the store today checking out NXG and supreme one.9

Kane curve seems like the lie will be about perfect for me. But I live the backstrom curve. The 6 lie has the toe coming up a bit but I can't tell if that is just that the blade is more open than Kane.

So if the Kane 6 lie is right for me, should the backstrom 6 lie be ok or should I try and find the 5 lie?

That's odd as the two curves have nearly identical lies, the difference is the amount of rocker on the bottom. If the toe is up on the Backstrom, you want to go down to a 5.

I'd also suggest tossing your skates on unless they have platform you can stand on to get the real height feel. In street shoes choking down more will also alter the lie. Do it right and be 100% before you plunk down the coin. Tape the point that you would normally cut it off at in street shoes just to mark it, toss on the skates and hold it there to see how they both lie.

when I say the toe is up, that is when I'm holding the stick like I'm playing in a skating type stance. I look down at the blade and appears that the toe is raised up a little, not flat on the floor.

But maybe it should look like that given that it is an open blade? I have a reebok hedman curve that is about perfect and the bauer kane looked right also. maybe the backstrom is fine, user lie assessment error?

I've found that actually playing with a bunch of different curves is really the only way to find out what lie and rocker works for you, holding a stick in the store won't do much. It won't be cut to the right height for you, you won't be in skates, and you won't be taking actual shots.

The shape of the toe and the twist of the P92 will make it so that the entire blade heel to toe won't be flat on the floor.

It has a huge rocker on the bottom. Short of putting the face down to cup the puck it's won't be flat.

Look to see if the toe and heel are equally off the floor and the middle of the blade is down.

I use the p92 exclusively and it's definitely the rocker as well as the twist of the blade that make the toe come up. I find it's great for puck handling in close to your skates but you might find that you will lose the puck off the toe when you're stickhandling the puck further way from your body. I find it's especially easy to lose it on the backhand too. If you tend to stick handle further away from your body, I'd recommend going to the lie 5 p92. I used that pattern as well but you will have to adjust your shot.
