bros29gladiators 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2012 Going from junior boot to new Total one's, experiencing problem with current 13in Warrior shins. The Tongue is longer and with big calves making current shins no longer fit. The question is: do I go to a wider shin (and what would those be) or do I go narrow so there is less in the way? and what would be your recomendations be? Thanks. Davetronz 109 Report post Posted October 11, 2012 RBK tends to run a bit wider in my opinion.

The MAD Line 2 Report post Posted October 11, 2012 Best bet is try to find somewhere to try on a bunch of different pairs. Trying to describe something that is "wider" than normal is hard when everyone has a different perspective of size.
tareatingrat 4 Report post Posted October 11, 2012 I have huge calves, and I went with Sherwood Nexon pads, best bang for the buck, IMO. RBK is good for size, but their strap system is stupid on some models. If you don't use the straps, then you're fine. The Bauer Nexus pads were good along with the Supremes. Vapors, on the cheaper side, tended to fit okay. The Warrior Projekt guards were probably my second choice after the Nexon's.Easton pads were generally too small. You really, really need to go try them on, though.Trying to describe something that is "wider" than normal is hard when everyone has a different perspective of size.Trust me, I have huge legs, compared to probably 90% of the population. The Nexon and Warrior pads were the best for width, from everything I tried on. As you get closer to entry level pads, there's less padding, and they tend to fit a bit better. If you like using the strap system (which I do), then there's a huge difference between models. I cannot do the strap system up on a good chunk of shin pads because my calves are so wide.
shoeshine boy 249 Report post Posted October 11, 2012 if you're using 13 inch shins you should give Warrior Bullys a try. I know that you said that you're using WArriors now but if they're a model like the Hustlers or Franchises then they're not made for people with big legs. Bauers are also good. Bauer and Warrior are 2 of teh few companies that consider 13 to be a senior size.
pulax30 1 Report post Posted October 11, 2012 I have huge calves. I found the One95's fit really well. I had to go from 14" One95's to 15" Reebok 9k's to get the same fit.
IPv6Freely 2100 Report post Posted October 12, 2012 RBK and Nexus are both crazy wide. I'm in Bauer Supreme now, and don't like them. I think the Nexus will be my next shin pad.I have huge calves. I found the One95's fit really well. I had to go from 14" One95's to 15" Reebok 9k's to get the same fit.Exactly. The Supremes I have (13") are crazy long, they seem more like 14" shins. I have to have my shins over my tongues because of it. With the Nexus 13" I'll be able to have my tongues on the outside.
