Frustrated with skates

Recommended Posts

The whole skate size vs show size isn't really relevant. It's different for everyone. My shoes are 11 and my grafs were 8.5W. Everyone is different.

Just a suggestion, and in the case you've spent a great deal of money on trying to buy a pair of skates to fit perfectly, but if you're covered by your insurance...maybe you can see a orthopedics specialist.?

just saw this: http://www.modsquadhockey.com/forums/index.php?/topic/57890-skates-for-small-flat-wide-feet/ - "'m a size 6E in Reebok 10k skates (with my right foot probably closer to a 5.5/5.75), and I'm totally flat-footed. I tried on S17's and they hurt my feet to no end. The 10k's fit beautifully."

as well: http://www.modsquadhockey.com/forums/index.php?/topic/43841-skates-for-wideflat-feet/

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll have to look about an ortho. I'll definitely read through the links, thanks!

So I've been using the CCM U+CLs (4.5 E) for a few games and I've noticed that my skating is pretty bad (worse than normal).

I started to feel really comfortable in my CCM U+12s (5.5 D). Any tips on how to adjust to the new length? I saw a post somewhere today about someone putting a holder and runner on their skate that was intentionally too long for the boot. Something about having a better stride...

I'm wondering are the U+12s bad for me? I really liked the control I had.

It doesn't give you a better stride, but it does allow your center of gravity to go farther forward without losing balance.

Since you're fairly new to the game and you've only started skating in a skate that fits you properly, I would focus on your form rather than trying to tweak the skate.

I'll second althoma1's recommendation, a radius can make a big difference. Although, there is no magical cure. In the end it's you, the skates are just the tool used. The more time you spend on the ice, the better. Some no-game related ice-time would be a plus. It's hard to focus on form and technique when you are in a game setting.

Agreed, there are no shortcuts. You will be better off in the long run if you work on your form.
